Convocation ceremonies return this year!

The College of Education and Human Services (CEHS) will host a graduation Convocation Ceremony on Sunday, May 20th, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. on Sprague Field for our undergraduate students who will complete their degree requirements by May 2018 and for those whose degrees were conferred in August 2017 and January 2018.  The individual College and School Convocation is a pre-commencement ceremony celebrating bachelor’s degree candidates' achievements. Tickets are required for the Convocation.

The University Wide Undergraduate Commencement scheduled for Friday, May 25, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Prudential Center, signifies the official conferral of degrees.

*Please note that doctoral and master's degree candidates are to attend the Graduate Commencement only.  For more information, visit the Graduate Commencement webpage.


Candidates who will complete their degree requirements by May 2018 and who after filing for a final audit are on the May 2018 graduation list are eligible to participate in the Convocation and/or Commencement exercises. Also eligible to participate are those whose degrees were conferred on August 2017 and January 2018.

If you have questions concerning academic issues relative to your degree, please contact the Office of the Registrar at 973-655-4376. All other questions related to your academic standing may be directed to your academic advisor.

The Convocation ceremony will be held in Sprague Field, an open-air venue. Guests are urged to dress according to the weather. It is highly recommended that students and guests wear comfortable flat shoes on.  Undergraduate students will be seated according to their academic major on the field.

Ticket Procedures

Unlike Commencement, tickets are required for Convocation. More information regarding requesting/receiving your tickets will be posted as soon as it is made available. You will need to present your MSU student ID card to pick up your tickets.


Students participating in Convocation and/or Commencement are required to wear academic regalia. Pocketbooks, backpacks, or other carried articles are not permitted in the procession or the seats. More information about purchasing regalia will be posted as soon as it is available.

*Please note that Regalia will not be available for purchase at Convocation or Commencement.

Undergraduate Commencement 2018

  • Undergraduate Commencement will take place indoors at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, on Friday, May 25 at 11 a.m.
  • Individual students' names are not read during the ceremony
  • Seating is unlimited and tickets are not required for the Commencement Ceremony
  • Students participating in Commencement are required to wear full academic regalia
