Incoming First-Year Student

Welcome to Montclair State University and the College of Education and Human Services!

The College of Education & Human Services (CEHS) Student Success Center is here to help as you transition to the University.

We encourage you to complete the steps listed on the Freshman Student Checklist and start using your @ montclair.edu email address, as that is where official university communications will be sent.

At this time, your schedule for the fall has been completed. Our office works in conjunction with your major department to build a schedule that includes both required coursework for your major, as well as coursework that completes general education requirements. The schedule is built so that your classes are with other first-year students within your major or college, as we find students do better when they take courses together. Please note that there are very few extenuating circumstances in which we would be able to adjust a student’s schedule for the first semester.

As per the announcement from our President, Dr. Cole, the Fall 2020 semester will begin one week earlier, on Tuesday, August 25th. In addition, the University has developed a variety of formats for courses in the fall. These are called “modalities,” and they will range from fully online to fully face-to-face offerings. They are being developed in connection with the state guidelines that have been released for college instruction. Please check your NEST account throughout the summer, as your class information may change. Your classes will have notations indicating the format for each on your course schedule. More information about the ways that classes will be offered this fall is available here.

We look forward to virtually meeting you at orientation this summer! More information about orientation is posted on the Montclair State Orientation Experience website.

As we are currently working remotely, you can reach us at cehsadvising@montclair.edu with any questions. Keep an eye out for more communications from our team, and we look forward to working with you!
