We are pleased to welcome Daniel Rodrigues, Managing Director Investment Banking for Nomura Securities, Joshua Watts, Vice President and Assistant Treasurer for Interpublic Group, and Mirvat Katib, Certified Health and Life Coach and Healthcare Consultant to share their expat journeys in South America, Europe and the Middle East. Panelists will discuss their international experiences, how they found positions abroad and the impact of the expat experience on their careers. Time will be reserved for Q&A.

Daniel Rodrigues was a Managing Director, Investment Banking for Nomura Securities International (Nomura) and is currently based in New York City. Throughout Daniel’s 15 year career, he has developed a broad experience in private equity, corporate finance operations and investment banking with a specialization in cross-border transactions. Prior to his role in New York, Daniel was Country Manager in Brazil for Nomura based in São Paulo where he spearheaded the build-out of the investment banking business and client development activities since joining the firm in July of 2013. Prior to joining Nomura, Daniel held positions at UBS, Morgan Stanley, Hicks Muse Tate & Furst and Kraft Foods. At UBS, Daniel led the Consumer Retail coverage effort for the Investment Banking team out of São Paulo. Prior to that, he was a Director of Mergers and Acquisitions for the Latin America region of Kraft Foods International. Daniel holds an MBA from Nova Southeastern University in Florida and a BA from Montclair State University. He is fluent in English, Portuguese and Spanish.

Joshua Watts is Vice President & Assistant Treasurer at Interpublic Group (IPG) and is currently based in New York City. Joshua’s experience spans treasury, corporate finance, financial planning & analysis, accounting, and project management. He has extensive experience managing international teams and projects including working 10 years as an expatriate in Sweden and the Netherlands. In his current role at IPG his primary focus is international treasury including liquidity and working capital management, risk management, treasury operations and capital investments. He manages teams based in New York, London, Hong Kong and São Paulo. Before joining IPG, Joshua was Director of Capital Markets at AkzoNobel where he was responsible for the group capital structure including 300+ legal entities in 80 countries and managed central liquidity including a $2.1bn syndicated RCF, a $3bn commercial paper program and the group’s investment portfolio. Other positions at AkzoNobel included Manager of Global Treasury Infrastructure and Projects, Head of Treasury for North America and Controller. Joshua holds a B.S. in Accounting and an MBA from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro.

Mirvat Katib is a certified health and life coach and healthcare consultant currently based in New Jersey. She recently returned to the United States after working in the United Arab Emirates for five years. While in Dubai, Mirvat was a Management Consultant for Balsam for Health Promotion following a position as Customer Relationship Management Consultant for Salamatak Healthcare Management. Previously she held roles in the United States with Bayonne Medical Center and Signature Fitness. She graduated from Montclair State University with a B.S. in Management and International Business.

Ronald Strauss, Department Chair, Accounting and Finance Department brings over 35 years of combined private sector and academic experience to his teaching and research. In the private sector, he held positions at KPMG-NY and at Merrill Lynch where he spent 20 years in various senior financial and operating positions including nine+ years based in Asia, two years as International COO and three years as fixed income COO. He is the co-author of Wall Street Values- Business Ethics and The Global Financial Crisis, 2013, Cambridge University Press and Editor of International Journal of Disclosure and Governance.
