Recent census analyses reveal that Latinos account for 12% of New Jersey’s population, making New Jersey the state with the 7th largest Latino population. By 2015, it is projected that Latinos will exceed 17% of the state’s population. As such, potential employers and graduate schools look favorably upon graduates who have the unique academic background provided by a minor in Latin American and Latino Studies. If you have taken six credits in Spanish or Portuguese or plan on taking one of these two languages, then you are eligible to declare this minor. Please review the curriculum guide.

Undergraduate Programs
Minor in Latin American and Latino Studies
The Latin American and Latino Studies Minor consists of 18 credits: two required courses (LALS 201 and 205), which meets the Non-Western requirement; a capstone course (LALS 401); and three courses across disciplines. Students may major in the academic department of their choice. The LALS minor combines well with careers in business, economics, education, law, medicine, social sciences, literature and the arts.
