Amici Club Activities 2016-17
Beside holding bi-weekly meetings (including meetings with other clubs), the Italian Club has been involved in the following activities this semester:
Special event: Trip to New York - Guided tour at CIMA (Center for Italian Modern Art)
The Dec. 10, 2016 visit to this unique casa-museo (museum house) located in Soho, Manhattan was a rich and exciting educational experience centered around the museum's current De Chirico and Paolini exhibit showcasing stunning works on view in New York for the first time after decades or adapted for the specific site. Led by CIMA fellow researcher Maria Bremer, who offered a truly informative and engaging illustration of the works on display, the tour was an occasion to learn about early 20th century metaphysical art and its impact on the second half of the century in works interrogating the enigma of time and space, and the reproductive meaning of art in both the modern and post-modern eras. After enjoying a coffee kindly offered by CIMA in their beautiful kitchen - their philosophy is one of welcoming the visitors to a beautiful apartment for an intimate encounter with art - the group spent some time at a historical Italian café in the nearby Little Italy. As the club's president Dominique Aponte put it: "It was a very pleasant experience because it allowed for students who do not usually study art to learn more about it in the context of Italian Studies. The Amici Italian Club is pleased and grateful for this visit, which is just one of the opportunities that the Italian Program at Montclair State has to offer."
Italian Open Day Spring: Italy through Images, Words and Music: Award Ceremony and Concert (April 5, 2017)
Members of the the Amici Italian Club Dominique Aponte, Anna DiMeo, Ashly Espinoza and Mark Sample translated, under the supervision of Dr. Marisa Trubiano, Italian songs that were performed during the event by the Laura Campisi Duo.
Chocolate Making Event (April 26, 2017)
A "sweet" evening to make and taste chocolate, and learn about how the founder of the Dolce Federica company follows principles of sustainability and tradition in innovative ways, in both her gastronomic and entrepreneurial choices.
