French Translation Students Translate Work for Haitian Creole Digital History Project

Translated and curated primary sources from an episode in the history of Saint-Domingue

Two French Translation students, Daphney Vastey (MA) and Pierre Malbranche (BA), recently contributed the first Haitian Creole translation of the ongoing digital history project dedicated to the colonial archive of then Saint-DomingueA Colony in Crisis: The Saint-Domingue Grain Shortage of 1789..

Working closely with Dr. Laurence Jay-Rayon Ibrahim Aibo on the project )made possible by a grant from the New Jersey Council of the Humanities), the students' work includes an introduction as well as the first of three Haitian Creole translations. Audio recordings will eventually be added to respond the full spectrum of Haitian Creole literacy among the Haitian community.

Please join us in congratulating Daphney and Pierre for their hard work and dedication!
