Born and raised in Rome from an Italian mother and an Egyptian father, Amir Issaa is an internationally renowned hip-hop artist who has creatively collaborated with several artists over the decades. He is also a passionate social activist and educator committed to the BLM agenda in Italy. As part of his activist work, Amir regularly holds rap writing workshops in schools, prisons, and colleges across the world. Amir is also an author: Vivo per questo<\/a> <\/em>(2017), his personal and artistic autobiography, is a testament to the challenges and imagination of the second generation in Italy, while his second book, Educazione Rap<\/a><\/em> (2021), looks at rap as a poetic linguistic exercise as well as a shared experience of social impact across borders.<\/p>\n

At Montclair State University, he will present Power to the Words\/Potere alle Parole<\/em>, a two-part program on Mon. Oct. 3:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. A concert at 8pm in Leshowitz Hall (inside Chapin Hall \u2013 the Cali School of Music) as part of the Hip Hop Residency Week Program.<\/li>\n
  2. A workshop at 5:30pm in Schmitt 110 in Italian for students interested in learning how to write rap songs (seats are limited).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
