{"id":211663,"date":"2023-11-03T14:03:43","date_gmt":"2023-11-03T18:03:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/chss\/?p=211663"},"modified":"2023-11-13T09:09:52","modified_gmt":"2023-11-13T14:09:52","slug":"child-trafficking-in-ghana-expert-lecture-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/chss\/2023\/11\/03\/child-trafficking-in-ghana-expert-lecture-series\/","title":{"rendered":"Child Trafficking in Ghana Expert Lecture Series"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On October 17th, 2023, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/~peterkabentd\">Dr. Daniela Peterka-Benton<\/a>, Academic Director of the Global Center on Human Trafficking, in collaboration with the Department of <a href=\"http:\/\/montclair.edu\/justice-studies\">Justice Studies<\/a> and the Department of Information Management &amp; Business Analytics, welcomed Mr. Kingsley Nana Kwame Gyamera Abrokwa, Regional Child Labor Expert from Africa for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations to our campus.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Abrowka has a wealth of experience in the field of human trafficking and child protection through his work with the United Nations and also possesses research expertise with blockchain and Geographic Information Systems to monitor and prevent child labor in Ghana\u2019s cocoa sector. During his short 2-day stay on our campus, Mr. Abrokwa gave three lectures sharing his expertise.<\/p>\n<p>His research methods workshop \u201cDoing Research with Semi-Literate Study Populations \u2013 Experiences from the Field in Africa\u201d introduced the audience to research methodologies for work with study populations with limited reading and writing abilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Future Dynamics of Child Trafficking and Child Labor in Ghana\u2013 Obstacles and Opportunities Within the Future of Work Discourse\u201d addressed child labor in the context of changes in job roles with the emergence of AI and the future of work.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, \u201cDigitalization and Child Labor in Agriculture: Exploring Blockchain and Geographic Information Systems to Monitor and Prevent Child Labor in Ghana\u2019s Cocoa Sector\u201d introduced the audience to how technology can help to identify high-risk areas of child labor in cocoa growing areas and possibly other sectors of agriculture.<\/p>\n<p>For more information about the speaker or his lectures, please contact <a href=\"mailto:peterkabentd@montclair.edu\">peterkabentd@montclair.edu<\/a>.
