{"id":212835,"date":"2025-06-26T12:36:07","date_gmt":"2025-06-26T16:36:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/chss\/?p=212835"},"modified":"2025-06-26T12:36:07","modified_gmt":"2025-06-26T16:36:07","slug":"university-names-fatma-mili-interim-dean-of-the-college-of-humanities-and-social-sciences","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/chss\/2025\/06\/26\/university-names-fatma-mili-interim-dean-of-the-college-of-humanities-and-social-sciences\/","title":{"rendered":"University Names Fatma Mili Interim Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fatma Mili, PhD, has been named interim dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Montclair State University, effective July 1, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Mili will serve as the lead academic and administrative officer for the College, which offers a wide range of programs in the liberal arts such as Psychology, English, Political Science and Law, History, Philosophy, and Child Advocacy.<\/p>\n<p>An experienced educator and academic leader, Mili comes to Montclair from Grand Valley State University, where she served as Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. There, she co-led a university-wide initiative to restructure advising and strengthen and integrate all student care and student success services, and spearheaded the restructuring of the College of Engineering and Computing creating two colleges, one for engineering and one for computing.<\/p>\n<p>Prior leadership positions include serving as Dean of the College of Computing and Informatics at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and as a professor, Department Chair and Associate Dean at Purdue University.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are incredibly fortunate to have Dr. Mili, with many accomplishments in higher education, who has exceptional skills and knowledge to provide leadership for the College\u2019s new directions,\u201d says Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Junius Gonzales. \u201cShe has experience providing integrative and reflective thinking to accelerate positive change through meaningful engagement by developing and empowering cultures, people and systems. Her commitment to and track record in enhancing the student experience for their success is noteworthy. I truly look forward to working with her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A firm believer in the importance of the liberal arts, Mili is looking forward to joining Montclair and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore than ever, the humanities and social sciences are our compass toward a technology-powered, human-centered society,\u201d says Mili. \u201cThe College of Humanities and Social Sciences is uniquely positioned to serve as a sense maker and convener, bringing together multiple disciplines and university partners, and contributing to discernment, education, action plans, and effective models and systems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe commitment of Montclair State University to its distinct mission and its momentum in the last decade are inspiring and impressive.
