Below are just a few examples of students making their mark:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--> <!--StartFragment--><\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px;\"><p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">\u2022 \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"text-indent: -0.25in;\">Filmmaking student NICK CAPRA won first prize and an internship with Sony Pictures Classics for his film &#8220;Writer&#8217;s Block&#8221; at the <strong>Project FX Film Festival<\/strong>. Montclair State had four total entries (April, 2016).<\/span><span style=\"text-indent: -0.25in; font-family: Symbol;\"><span style=\"font-size: 7pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">\u2022 \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"text-indent: -24px;\">Communication Studies majors\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"text-indent: -0.25in;\">BROOKE O&#8217;DONNELL and SHANNON BOYLE won the Top Poster Award at the <strong>Eastern Communication Association (ECA) Undergraduate Scholars Conference<\/strong> in Baltimore. Their poster, entitled &#8220;Delving Deeper Into the Fourth Wave: Defining Parameters for a New Generation&#8221; was presented with their accompanying competitively selected paper, entitled &#8220;Towards a Fourth Wave: Connections Between the Millennial Generation and Conceptions of Feminism&#8221; (April 2016).<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote style=\"margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px;\"><p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">\u2022 \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"text-indent: -0.25in;\">SCM students in the <strong>Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA)<\/strong> chapter produced a very successful fundraising event for Autism NJ. The &#8220;Jersey Stars&#8221; concert, featuring comedian Sunda Croonquist, Broadway star Stephanie J. Block, Four Seasons member Don Ciccone, the Montclair State Freshman Revue ensemble, and the Paper Mill Playhouse Broadway Show Choir,<\/span><span style=\"text-indent: -0.25in;\">\u00a0raised more than $6,000 for the autism charity. Professor Larry Weiner serves as advisor to PRSSA (April, 2016)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">\u2022 \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"text-indent: -0.25in;\">SCM students participated at the <strong>10th\u00a0Annual Student Research Symposium<\/strong> at Montclair State. DAN FERRER (Film major) presented a paper titled, &#8220;Consequences of Pleasure: The Wolf of Wall Street and the Subversion of the Male Gaze&#8221; and FE LORRAINE REYES (English major and Communication minor) presented a paper titled &#8220;Racially Charged Costumes: A Report on &#8216;Othering&#8217; Behavior.&#8221; Dr. Marylou Naumoff served as faculty adviser for both projects (April, 2016).<\/span><span style=\"text-indent: -0.25in;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote style=\"margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px;\"><p><!--StartFragment--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">\u2022 \u00a0<\/span><em style=\"text-indent: -0.25in;\">The Montclarion<\/em><span style=\"text-indent: -0.25in;\"> received three awards from the 2015-16 <strong>NJ Collegiate Newspaper Contest<\/strong>, a competition hosted by the New Jersey Press Foundation, which rewarded students for their exceptional media from student newspapers within the state (March, 2016).<\/span><span style=\"text-indent: -0.25in;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote style=\"margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px;\">\n<blockquote style=\"margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px;\"><p><em>&#8211;<a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/themontclarion.org\/entertainment\/presenting-lady-rae-pavillion\/\" target=\"_blank\">Presenting Lady Rae Pavillion<\/a><\/em>\u2013 First Place in Photography<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote style=\"margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px;\"><p><em>&#8211;<a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/themontclarion.org\/feature\/what-veterans-day-means-to-these-montclair-state-vets\/\" target=\"_blank\">What Veterans Day Means to These Montclair State Vets<\/a><\/em>\u2013 First Place in Online Project<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote style=\"margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px;\"><p><em>&#8211;<a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/themontclarion.org\/news\/its-all-packed-here\/\" target=\"_blank\">Parking at Montclair State: It\u2019s All Packed Here<\/a><\/em>\u2013 Second Place in Online Project<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote style=\"margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px;\"><p>\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">\u2022 \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"text-indent: -0.25in;\">Public Relations student CYNTHIA HUASIPOMA was named a <strong>New York Women in Communications Foundation Scholarship<\/strong> recipient &#8212; Class of 2016. In addition, Cynthia was awarded an <strong>IPG (Interpublic Group)<\/strong> internship for the summer season<\/span><span style=\"text-indent: -0.25in;\">(March, 2016).<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote style=\"margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px;\"><p><!--StartFragment--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">\u2022 \u00a0<\/span>WMSC won three finalist awards at the 76th\u00a0Intercollegiate <strong>Broadcasting System Conference and Awards<\/strong>.\u00a0WMSC is among the top 5 college radio stations in the nation (University with enrollment +10,000), Top 5 Station Manager and Top Best Spot News (March, 2016)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote style=\"margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px;\"><p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">\u2022 \u00a0<\/span>SCM students KAAN OGUZ, KRISTIE KELESHIAN, JOSE CORTEZ and faculty members Tara George\u00a0and\u00a0Steve McCarthy collaborated to produce a Newark news story that aired on <strong>NJTV<\/strong> <strong>News<\/strong>.\u00a0The story followed up on a Valentine&#8217;s Day initiative that made headlines a year ago when the city of Newark sold off lots to couples for $1,000 apiece. NJTV News anchor Mary Alice Williams introduced the package on air as the work of students and faculty from Montclair State University.<\/p>\n<p><!--StartFragment--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">\u2022 \u00a0<\/span>Communication Studies students SHANNON BOYLE and\u00a0<span style=\"text-indent: -24px;\">BROOKE O&#8217;DONNELL<\/span>\u00a0attended the 73rd Annual <strong>New York State Communication Association Conference (NYSCA)<\/strong>. They were selected to speak on the &#8220;Top Paper Panel&#8221; which included two undergraduate papers, two graduate papers, and one paper from a professor.
