His experience includes running breaking news and daytime programming, serving as Vice President of news, and running a Webby-award-winning digital media company.<\/p>\n<p>Now, Effron is taking his years of experience and passing it along to the next generation of someday media superstars\u2014his students. Effron teaches Television and Digital Media classes, however, he\u2019s planning to inspire students outside of the classroom, too.<\/p>\n<p>Effron is working hands-on to launch a multiplatform newsroom, which will be just one of the many excellent resources for students in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/news\/article.php?ArticleID=15928\">School of Communication and Media\u2019s new headquarters<\/a>, which is nearing completion.<\/p>\n<p>Some of Effron\u2019s hopes include creating a richer teaching experience for students, as well as fostering more innovative types of journalism and storytelling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the main goals [of the newsroom] will be to identify what sort of collaborative projects we can create utilizing the many brands that our school houses,\u201d Effron says.<\/p>\n<p>The School of Communication runs several media platforms, including <a href=\"\/college-of-communication-and-media\/student-productions\/carpe-diem\/\">Carpe Diem<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/njnewscommons.org\">Center for Cooperative Media<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/themontclarion.org\/\">The Montclarion<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/wiredjersey.com\/\">Wired Jersey<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/wmscradio.com\/\">WMSC<\/a>\u2014all of which are great resources for students to boost their portfolios and gain valuable, hands-on experience that is vital to landing a career in the industry.<\/p>\n<p>Effron envisions meaningful projects between brands that will enhance students\u2019 learning experiences, such as producing daily newscasts that could be streamed on Facebook Live, and distributed through other platforms like Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf there\u2019s one thing I\u2019ve learned during my career is that change is a constant, and if you get stuck in how you did things yesterday, you will fail,\u201d Effron says. \u201cYou have to stay intellectually agile, open to new ideas, and new ways of doing things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mark has a master\u2019s degree in journalism from Columbia University and an undergraduate degree in politics from Brandeis University.
