Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Days after receiving a nomination for the prestigious National Association of Broadcasters\u2019 Marconi Award for \u201cCollege Radio Station of the Year,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.askcbi.org\/\">College Broadcasters Inc<\/a>. (CBI) announced this week that <a href=\"https:\/\/wmscradio.com\/\">WMSC<\/a> is a finalist for six awards. Winners will be announced at CBI&#8217;s annual National Student Electronic Media Conference on October 29 in Orlando.<\/p>\n<p>WMSC is a finalist in six audio and video categories:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Newscast<\/strong> \u2013 May the Fourth<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Hard News Reporting<\/strong> &#8211; Colonial Pipeline Hack<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Special Broadcast<\/strong> &#8211; WMSC\u2019s World College Radio Day Hour for the 24-hour marathon Around the World<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Documentary<\/strong> &#8211; Focus Racial Justice<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Station Imaging<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Comedy<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/ZZmaC3jDtso\">&#8220;We\u2019ll Be Back&#8221;<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In May, WMSC General Manager Anabella Poland was nominated by her peers for the <strong>Joel Willer Award, <\/strong>which is named after one of CBI\u2019s founding members. The award is presented to advisors, faculty and staff to recognize exceptional dedication and service to student electronic media.<\/p>\n<p>These nominations cap a string of top industry awards for WMSC this year. In March at the 81st\u00a0 Annual\u00a0 Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Conference and Awards, the station earned top honors as Best College Station (+more than 10,000 students), Best Program Director, Best Business Manager and Best Use of Sound Effects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is an honor to be nominated for any award, but for our students to be recognized during such unpredictable and challenging circumstances speaks to their resiliency, creativity and embracing our university\u2019s motto, <em>Carpe diem<\/em>,\u201d Poland said. \u201cI am excited for the new school year to work with our returning and new students to continue producing impactful, award-winning content.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Students interested in joining or learning more about working with WMSC can contact Poland via polanda@montclair.edu or visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wmscradio.com\/\">www.wmscradio.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>WMSC is one of five media organizations on campus, including <a href=\"https:\/\/themontclarion.org\/\">The Montclarion<\/a> (newspaper), <a href=\"https:\/\/montclairnewslab.tv\/\">News Lab <\/a>(multi-platform digital outlet) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawkcomms.com\/\">Hawk Communications<\/a> (strategic communications agency) and the <a href=\"https:\/\/montclairathletics.com\/sports\/2020\/4\/18\/red-hawk-sports-network.aspx\">Red Hawk Sports Network<\/a>, which covers 18 varsity sports at the university in conjunction with the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Days after receiving a nomination for the prestigious National Association of Broadcasters\u2019 Marconi Award for \u201cCollege Radio Station of the Year,\u201d the College Broadcasters Inc.
