It recognizes the station\u2019s 2021 highlights and achievements, and highlights its presence in innovative programming, station reach, commitment to its community, and unique challenges posed within the academic year.<\/p>\n<p>Recipients of the NAB Marconi Radio Awards will be announced during the NAB Show in New York, held October 19 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Other finalists include WGLS-FM (Rowan University), WHPC-FM (Nassau Community College), WRHU-FM (Hofstra University), and WRRC-FM (Rider University).<\/p>\n<p>WMSC was previously nominated for \u201cBest Non-Commercial Station of the Year\u201d in 2017, and \u201c College Radio Station of the Year\u201d in 2019 and 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCollege radio is just as much about each individual student\u2019s journey as it is about programming and elevating underrepresented voices,\u201d says Anabella Poland, WMSC general manager and faculty advisor. \u201cI am elated that WMSC continues to consistently deliver outstanding opportunities for students to grow in this medium, as well as the innovative programming that has led to a fourth Marconi nomination. \u201d<\/p>\n<p>Already an award-winning station, WMSC received the 2021 World College Radio Day Global Marathon Award for \u201cBest Audio Production\u201d along with 13 nominations for the Intercollegiate Broadcast System (IBS) Awards. The station also took home seven national college awards from College Broadcasters, Inc. (CBI), with first place honors for \u201cBest Audio Broadcast\u201d (World College Radio Day) and \u201cBest Video Comedy\u201d (\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ZZmaC3jDtso\">We\u2019ll Be Back<\/a>\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>Student directors reflected on what the nomination means to them and their experience at the station.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCollege radio has been a second home to many of the DJs and general members. This platform has amplified underrepresented voices and sparked genuine memories for all of its members,\u201d says Station Manager Ben Petruk. \u201cA nomination like this is humbling and a privilege, and we are all extremely grateful. We are also very glad to be in the company of such prestigious radio stations and the Marconi Award Society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m so proud of this brilliant team and our passion for radio, driving us to work together even when things get rough. I\u2019m forever grateful for this nomination,\u201d said Program Director Leslie Gallagher.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;WMSC has been around since &#8217;67, so being a part of it at the height of its success after this many years is a privilege. What feels so great about the current moment at WMSC is the profound pride and love that everyone has for each other here,\u201d says Music Director Jared Tauber. The triumphs of our friends is the triumph of the whole, and we love to give each other reasons to celebrate \u2014 whether it&#8217;s a nomination or our website simply continuing to be online.
