{"id":212045,"date":"2026-03-16T07:11:06","date_gmt":"2026-03-16T11:11:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/college-of-communication-and-media\/?p=212045"},"modified":"2026-03-16T07:11:06","modified_gmt":"2026-03-16T11:11:06","slug":"the-montclarion-earns-national-honors-at-cma-apple-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/college-of-communication-and-media\/2026\/03\/16\/the-montclarion-earns-national-honors-at-cma-apple-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"The Montclarion Earns National Honors at CMA Apple Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Student journalists from student-led media source, <a href=\"https:\/\/themontclarion.org\/\">The Montclarion<\/a>, earned national recognition at the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cmaportal.memberclicks.net\/\"><b>2026 College Media Association Apple Awards<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, receiving honors for their exceptional work in opinion writing and social media coverage.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This year\u2019s competition drew 463 entries across 19 categories, judged by a panel of experienced media professors and educators. The CMA Apple Awards are considered the organization\u2019s \u201cbest in show\u201d honors for the convention, recognizing top student journalism and multimedia storytelling. The awards were presented during the Spring National College Media Convention, held March 4\u20137 in New York City.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Montclarion Writer Miranda Burnett earned third place in Division I for Best Opinion Column for her piece, <\/span><b><i>\u201c<\/i><\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/themontclarion.org\/opinion\/when-ice-watches-trust-disappears\/\"><b><i>When ICE Watches, Trust Disappears.\u201d<\/i><\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> The column was produced in collaboration with Opinion Editor Cassandra Michalakis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI\u2019m incredibly grateful to have received this award. I couldn\u2019t have done it without The Montclarion, which has given me so many opportunities and outlets to grow as a writer through their guidance and support,\u201d said Burnett, a Business Administration major.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Editor-in-Chief David Bien-Aime, News Editor Emily Ramirez and Video Editor Mya Cialini were recognized for their <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reels\/DO_3jaHkZti\/\"><b>Instagram video<\/b><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">capturing the Yogi Berra Big Catch last summer, which set a Guinness World Records record for the largest game of catch ever. Their work earned an Honorable Mention for Best Social Media Coverage of a Single Event.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;I am very proud of the work our team put in this academic year,\u201d said Bien-Aime, a dual major in journalism and digital media and political science. \u201cEveryone at The Montclarion puts a lot of time and effort into everything they do, so being nationally recognized means a lot to us.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This achievement highlights the continued impact of Montclair State University\u2019s student journalists, whose reporting, commentary and multimedia storytelling connect the campus community with stories that matter.
