This book provides school-based speech-language pathologists (SLPs) with detailed tools, ideas, and inspiration to be impactful within the multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) framework. The MTSS framework is a tiered system of support that involves multiple levels of instruction aimed at meeting students’ needs in a timely and efficient manner. In contrast to a “one-size-fits-all” model, a central element of MTSS is providing all students with a strong research-based core curriculum and addressing the needs of students who require more support through increasingly intense “tiers.” The focus of this book is providing school-based SLPs with a concrete, immediate, and practical way to make a difference for students within the MTSS framework.

The publication of the book is timely in light of the COVID-19 public health crisis, which has both highlighted and exacerbated the challenges faced in the K-12 education system. Through involvement within MTSS, school-based SLPs can strive to make a meaningful difference for students struggling academically at this challenging time. This idea is further explored in Dr. Sylvan’s article titled “Tackling the Current Challenges Faced in Public Schools: MTSS as Part of the Solution” on the Plural Publishing website.

Dr. Sylvan’s book is available now on the Plural Publishing website and on Amazon.

Dr. Lesley Sylvan, an assistant professor in Communication Sciences and Disorders, is the author of the forthcoming book titled Multi-Tiered Systems of Support: Implementation Tools for Speech-Language Pathologists in Education, published by Plural Publishing.
