Cybersecurity FAQs

  • Where do the courses take place?
The Cybersecurity Certificate program is held at our beautiful campus located at 1 Normal Ave Montclair, NJ 07043. Some of the courses will be delivered online so it gives you the flexibility to join the lectures from anywhere you want.
  • What is the application process?
Our application process is divided into two phases. The initial application form you submit online and then a video-chat or in-person interview with program instructors.
  • How is this different than a typical cybersecurity course?
A computer science course or a typical short-term cybersecurity course tends to be theoretical or it only focused on a very specific topic. Our cybersecurity boot camp program will take you from the fundamentals of cybersecurity know-how, up to a level which you will be able to demonstrate your hands-on skills, subject matter knowledge and passion. This is more than enough to get hired in the cyber security position you love.
  • Is it important to have a background in computer science?
It is helpful to have but not necessary. You will jump into learning fundamental cyber security skills and solving problems directly. Since cybersecurity has the technology, people and business elements in it, every passionate individual has a lucrative future in this field.
  • What tools/programs will be used?
You will use a variety of technologies to get started in this field as soon as possible. This includes the virtual labs, latest cyber security / penetration testing tools like Kali Linux and Metasploit, as well as Cloud platforms and online learning modules.
  • What do I bring to the class?
You will need to bring a computer to the class. Your laptop needs to run any OS and have at least 4GB RAM, with latest multi-core processors, and at least a 100 GB HD. Most of the labs will be based on cloud environments so you won’t need high-end resources on your personal computer.
  • What is the time commitment of this program?
This career development program will be your primary focus in your life for the next 20 weeks. For the first 8 weeks, you will be able to attend the lectures without affecting your day time commitments, as the lectures take place Monday through Thursday from 6 pm to 9 pm and Saturday full time. Each day consists of 1 or 2  lectures and a series of exercises to practice the material covered in lecture. Once you complete the initial 8 weeks of the program, you will start your apprenticeship for the next 6 weeks. This will be your opportunity to hit the ground running and start your cyber security career by learning in an actual business environment.
  • Who are our instructors and how are they selected?
All of our highly qualified trainers are certified with years of experience in cyber security domains and working in the areas of cybersecurity and IT service and architecture. Each of them has gone through a rigorous selection process that includes profile screening, technical evaluation, and a training demo before they are certified to train for us. • What is online classroom training?
Some of the classes are conducted via live online streaming. They are interactive sessions that enable you to ask questions and participate in discussions during class time. All sessions will be recorded so you can watch them later via our online LMS platform.
  • What certification will I receive after completing the course?
After successful completion of the program, you will be awarded a completion certification signed by Montclair State University and Cyber Security Institute. Depending on the career path, you will also complete all the related training modules and hands-on practical experience for an industry-recognized certification such as CompTIA Security +, CySA + and Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH).
  • What If I miss a session?
We provide recordings of each online session you attend or miss for your future reference. For the classroom sessions, you will receive the hand-outs so you can study and catch up with the classroom.
  • I’ve never taken an online course or an online training environment. Will I be able to adapt?
Yes. Our online educational platform is both user-friendly and easy to navigate. In addition, all new students participate in orientation on how to use it. Many support services are provided to enhance your online learning experience and Slack based chat room.
  • How many students will there be in a class?
We will accept around 15 students in each iteration. This group will then be split into 2 groups, depending on Operations and Governance focused tracks.
