Information About:

Graduation is your opportunity to shine and to celebrate your accomplishments with family, friends, faculty and students. Montclair State University undergraduate students have two opportunities to celebrate the achievement of their degree. First, at small, college-based Undergraduate Convocations held on campus intended to celebrate the academic achievements of baccalaureate candidates and where individual names will be recited. Second, at the large, formal University Commencement ceremony where degrees are officially conferred, held May 25, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Prudential Center in Newark.

The College of Science and Mathematics (CSAM) will host an Undergraduate Convocation Ceremony on Monday, May 21, 2018 at 2 p.m. on Sprague Field for our undergraduate students who will complete their degree requirements by May 2018 and for those whose degrees were conferred in August 2017 and January 2018. Students should plan to arrive by 1 p.m. to get in line for the ceremony.

Distinguished Alumni Award

Dorothy Pelak Bognar '62 '67 MA

Dorothy Pelak Bognar ’62, ’67 MA

Dorothy Pelak Bognar earned a BS in Physical Science in 1962 and MA in Science Education in 1967 at Montclair State. She then received an MS in Biochemistry from Fairleigh Dickinson in 1971. Dorothy has been the supervisor of student teachers at Ramapo College for the past 15 years. Prior to that, she taught chemistry for 39 years at Ramapo High School in Franklin Lakes. She is passionate about science education and equipping young people with the foundation to pursue their interests in various related fields. Montclair State provided Dorothy with an entree into the field of science at a time when there were few women – and prepared her to be competitive. Once in the classroom and attending professional NSF Institutes, it became that much more apparent to Dorothy that her foundation at Montclair State had put her on track to a career that she loved and to excel at it.

Candidates for the baccalaureate degree who have completed their degree requirements in August 2017 or January 2018, or who will have completed their requirements by May 2018 are eligible to participate in the Undergraduate Convocation.
