The College of Science and Mathematics (CSAM) will host a graduation Convocation Ceremony on Tuesday, May 19 2015, at 7:00 pm on Sprague Field for our undergraduate students who will complete their degree requirements by May 2015 and for those whose degrees were conferred in August 2014 and January 2015.
While the University Commencement at 5:00pm on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at the Prudential Center signifies the official conferral of degrees, the individual College and School Convocation is a pre-commencement ceremony celebrating bachelor’s degree candidates' achievements. Tickets are required for the Convocation.
In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony may be delayed or cancelled. Please call the MSU weather hotline at 973-655-7810 or visit the Montclair State University website for up to the minute information.
Please note that doctoral and master's degree candidates are to attend the Graduate Convocation on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at 7:00 pm only.
Candidates who will complete their degree requirements by May 2015 and who after filing for a final audit are on the May 2015 graduation list are eligible to participate in the Convocation and/or Commencement exercises. Also eligible to participate are those whose degrees were conferred on August 2014 and January 2015.
If you have questions concerning academic issues relative to your degree, please contact the Office of the Registrar at 973-655-4376. All other questions related to your academic standing may be directed to your academic advisor.
For information on the application for final audit, Certification (Teacher), or if you missed the deadline to file for graduation, visit the registrar.
The Convocation ceremony will be held in Sprague Field, an open air venue. Guests are urged to dress according to the weather. It is highly recommended that students and guests wear comfortable flat shoes since students will enter and walk across the field to their designated seats. Undergraduate students will be seated according to their academic major on the field.
In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony may be delayed or rescheduled. Please call the MSU weather hotline at 973-655-7810 or visit the Montclair State University website for up to the minute information.
Unlike the Commencement exercises, tickets are required for the Convocation. Tickets can be requested online a few weeks before the convocation ceremony. Tickets will then be picked up from Richardson Hall Room 267A (Career Services). Specific dates for requesting and picking up tickets will be available here in April.
Students participating in Convocation and/or Commencement are required to wear academic regalia. For the CSAM Convocation, candidates are to wear robes and stoles (no caps). Pocketbooks or other carried articles are not permitted in the procession and the University cannot be responsible for loss of any items you may choose to carry.
Academic regalia may be purchased at the University Bookstore during regular store hours beginning Wednesday, May 6 and continuing through Thursday May, 21. They will be available again on Wednesday May 20 at the Prudential Center.
Eligible Bachelor's degree candidates must purchase their regalia in person and will be required to present a valid student I.D. or driver's license at the time of purchase.
Student registration and lineup will be in Lot 7. Candidates are to report to check in no later than 6:00 pm. At check-in, candidates will be given an index card with their name, phonetic spelling and honors status, if any. CSAM staff will be available for assistance. Guests are not permitted in the check-in or line-up area.
Candidates will line up in alpha order, by major. Signs will be posted identifying major/department locations for the line-up. Faculty marshals will be available for assistance. Guests are not permitted in the check-in or line-up area.
Procession will begin promptly at 7:00 pm. Latecomers will not be able to participate. Students will line up behind the platform party and enter the field through Gate 4. Please listen to instructions carefully on the day of the event.
Convocation ceremony is expected to not last more than 90 minutes. It will begin with a welcoming address by President Susan Cole. Graduating candidates will then be called to the stage (your name will be announced) to be congratulated personally by the President, the Dean and respective department chair.
Guest access to the field will be at Gates 5 and 7. Entrance will close for 15 minutes at 6:45 to accommodate the procession of faculty and candidates, so be sure that your guests arrive prior to that time. Seats are not numbered and there are no specific seat assignments for guests. Strollers are not allowed unto the bleachers. Families bringing strollers will be required to leave strollers in a designated location.
Due to the physical requirements of the seating area and safety reasons, it will not be possible for family members to take photos during the ceremony. Please plan to take photos with family and/or faculty following the ceremony.
Lot 42 will be reserved for special needs parking (with authorized handicap parking permit). Parking is limited in this lot. Special needs parking is also available in the Red Hawk Deck. An ADA shuttle will be available between the Red Hawk Deck and the Gate 7 entrance throughout the duration of the events. Entrance to the field is through Gate 7 (next to the HOME bleachers) only.
Students and guests may park in any of the surface lots as well as the Red Hawk Deck free of charge for the duration of the ceremony. Guest access to the field will be at Gates 5 and 7.
