Program (Academic Year and Summer Initiative)

Academic Year

During the academic year, participants attend the program on Saturdays. The Saturday academic component runs from September through May. Saturday sessions run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. During these sessions students receive the following services:

  • academic reinforcement in:
    • mathematics
    • the sciences
    • language arts
  • one-on-one tutoring
  • financial literacy
  • peer leadership training
  • team building activities
  • personal development
  • cultural field trips
  • college campus visits
  • health and fitness
  • volunteer activities
  • counseling
  • mentoring

Summer Initiative

During the summer initiative, students are exposed to six weeks of classes from June to August, Monday through Friday, at Montclair State University. Participants will become familiar with some of the aspects of life on a college campus. They will attend classes in language arts, mathematics, sciences, computer literacy, SAT test preparatory as well as everything offered during the academic year, listed above.
