OPEN-NJ applies this to academically strong students pursuing chemistry and biochemistry Master of Science degrees. Program graduates are expected to contribute to the continued success of Northern New Jersey’s chemical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Graduates will add to the well-trained workforce contributing to the economic growth nationally and in New Jersey.

Support services include a review of general chemistry during summer orientation, dedicated tutoring and faculty mentors and a learning community. The program enables students to move between disciplines. They can come to chemistry with a new perspective, understanding applications and making connections and apply what they learn.

Advantages to Students

Learn about careers and explore their interests via mentor meetings

Participate in workshops on resume preparation, interviews and on different aspects of professional skills development. The lessons learned, determined through the program evaluation, will provide useful data for other field-to-field transitions within STEM.

Receive a scholarship ($10,000/year for 2-3 years) to enter one of the eligible programs at Montclair State:

Master in Pharmaceutical Biochemistry

Master in Chemistry

Master in Chemistry with a Concentration in Biochemistry

Opportunity to receive a $4,500 summer research stipend

This material is based upon work supported by the National Science Foundation under Grant Number 2030879.

Program Requirements

Completed

General Chemistry I (with lab)

General Chemistry II (with lab)

Organic Chemistry I (with lab)

Organic Chemistry II

Calculus I

At least one year of Physics

US citizen, national, admitted refugee or permanent resident

Enrolling part-time in a Montclair State Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry MS program

Financial aid eligible as determined by the Office of Financial Aid

Committed to participating in all OPEN-NJ meetings including networking events

Apply

Apply to the University’s Graduate Program through the Graduate School website AND email Dr. Nina Goodey, goodeyn@montclair.edu, to indicate interest in the Program.
