Pre-College: Business Entrepreneurship and Innovation

Business Entrepreneurship and Innovation Pre-College Summer Program

Welcome to the Business Entrepreneurship and Innovation Pre-College Program at Montclair State. This year’s program will focus on social change making – specifically, how entrepreneurs can reinvent our cities and streets. In your week on campus, you’ll learn how innovation, design, and entrepreneurship can have a creative and meaningful impact right where you live. Your challenge – to redesign an urban landscape using globally recognized innovation, 3D printers, and a creative approach to entrepreneurship. You’ll learn from amazing Montclair faculty who bring 50 years of experience in innovation, design, and social transformation. This will all happen in our nationally recognized MIX Lab – the School of Business innovation research lab – where students benefit from state-of-the-art facilities and partnerships with world-class entrepreneurs, innovators, designers, urban planners, community activists, and environmentalists. We’re looking forward to welcoming you to Montclair this summer, where you’ll take the next step towards your future while enjoying all of the fun of residential life on our scenic campus only 12 miles from New York City.

In this program, you will:

  • Learn key ideas of entrepreneurship
  • Learn fundamentals of place-based design
  • Leverage a systems approach for change-making
  • Utilize an innovation process to disrupt the way things have always been done
  • Learn how to design 3D-printed prototypes
  • Pitch your novel approach

During the program, you’ll also be taking a trip to visit an urban farm, a recently redesigned city park, and the actual site in Montclair you will propose to innovate. There, you’ll meet with working activists, environmentalists, change agents, and disruptors. You’ll gain first-hand insight into place-making, learning how entrepreneurial ideas can lead to a positive change in our world.
