{"id":18,"date":"2018-04-12T18:08:00","date_gmt":"2018-04-12T18:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/educational-foundations\/?page_id=18"},"modified":"2025-11-20T09:55:29","modified_gmt":"2025-11-20T14:55:29","slug":"relationship-of-the-department-to-ceel","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/educational-foundations\/about-the-department\/relationship-of-the-department-to-ceel\/","title":{"rendered":"Relationship of the Department to CEEL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Department of Educational Foundations serves the College for Education and Engaged Learning as a locus for inquiry into the broader goals, motivations, traditions, and theories of education as a force in society.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A major aspect of our mission is to problematize common notions in current discussions of education, such as \u201cnational standards\u201d or \u201cenculturation.\u201d We consider this form of problematization to be an essential skill to develop within the college and society as a whole, to ensure critical reflection and continual reconstruction of educational and social institutions.\u00a0 We do so by examining the social forces that have shaped and continue to shape educational theory and practice through the lens of a number of disciplines \u2013 history, philosophy, sociology, psychology, anthropology, and economics.
