{"id":841,"date":"2017-12-05T16:29:22","date_gmt":"2017-12-05T16:29:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/english\/?p=841"},"modified":"2019-05-06T12:28:35","modified_gmt":"2019-05-06T16:28:35","slug":"new-co-edited-collection-by-lucy-mcdiarmid-the-vibrant-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/english\/2017\/12\/05\/new-co-edited-collection-by-lucy-mcdiarmid-the-vibrant-house\/","title":{"rendered":"New Co-Edited Collection by Lucy McDiarmid: The Vibrant House"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lucy McDiarmid, Marie Frazee-Baldassarre Professor of English, has just published a new book titled <em><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fourcourtspress.ie\/books\/2017\/the-vibrant-house\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Vibrant House: Irish Writing and Domestic Space.<\/a><\/em>\u00a0The book was\u00a0co-edited by McDiarmid and Rhona Richman Kenneally, professor at Concordia University, and has been published by Four Courts Press.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Vibrant House<\/em> gathers a collection of\u00a0 creative memoirs and scholarly essays exploring the relation between home as metaphor and home as physical and spatial entity.\u00a0 Many contributors to the collection have given lectures or poetry readings in the Marie Frazee-Baldassarre series at Montclair State; these include\u00a0 Angela Bourke, Eil\u00e9an N\u00ed Chuillean\u00e1in, Colette Bryce, Theo Dorgan, Vona Groarke, Nicholas Grene, Rhona Richman Kenneally, and Tony Tracy. McDiarmid&#8217;s essay &#8220;Hairpins Among the Rifles: The Domestic Site in Women&#8217;s Accounts of 1916&#8221; is also included in the collection.<\/p>\n<p>Lucy McDiarmid is the author or editor of eight books, including most recently,\u00a0\u00a0<em>At Home in the Revolution: What Women Said and Did in 1916<\/em> and <em><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/global.oup.com\/academic\/product\/poets-and-the-peacock-dinner-9780198722786?cc=us&amp;lang=en&amp;\" target=\"_blank\">Poets and the Peacock Dinner: The Literary History of a Meal<\/a><\/em>.
