Montclair Innovation Lab
In an effort to create, connect and collaborate with the broader Montclair community, the Feliciano Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation has launched an off-campus incubator at 10 Lackawanna Plaza, in the heart of Downtown Montclair, NJ. This 2-year pilot program kicked off in March 2020.
In partnership with business leaders, nonprofits and community-based organizations, the “Montclair Innovation Lab” will scale the learnings of the MIX Lab, support our 2020 StartUp Montclair pitch competition winners and host retail pop-ups for student and community entrepreneurs.
Just as we opened our doors, the coronavirus pandemic hit our community and the world. The Montclair Innovation Lab became the hub of a community led project – a collaboration between our MIX Lab and Design Shed, parent organization of Montclair Design Week and William Paterson University – to design and produce face shields for front-line health care workers in our region.
2020 Startup Montclair
Startup Montclair, our annual pitch contest, was held virtually in 2020 to identify the most innovative business ideas and award prizes ranging from $2,500 to $25,000 to winning teams. A panel of judges, including Montclair State alumni and serial entrepreneurs Ori Eisen and Ricardo Tavaras, MSU’s Entrepreneur-in-Residence and Founder/CEO of iFundWomen Karen Cahn, former President of Foursquare and Founder of Oceans Ventures Steven Rosenblatt and CEO of the Institute for Entrepreneurial Leadership Jill Johnson, awarded prizes to the most compelling concepts.
In 2020, we added 2 additional prize categories: Female Founders (teams comprised of more than 50% founders who identify as women) and a Community Prize, open to entrepreneurs with business or residential addresses in Montclair, Clifton or Little Falls.
The Montclair Innovation Lab features a ground-level kiosk for entrepreneurs to pop-up and introduce their brand, product or service within an established retail district. Student start-ups, local entrepreneurs and established brands can experiment selling to the public or test the Montclair Center as a potential market. Inquire about availability: email@example.com.
