Montclair State University held two WEW events in 2018: an all-day conference and an evening event. Both events were free and open to the public.<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>Focus on Fashion Entrepreneurs
\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Nearly 300 people attended this evening event focused on what it takes to succeed in the world of fashion. A panel of women who have started fashion companies shared their stories, including tips, advice, lessons learned and more. Speakers included\u00a0Fabiola Arias<\/a>, owner and designer at Fabiola Arias LLC<\/a>; Susan Hess<\/a>, owner\/designer of\u00a0Golftini<\/a>,\u00a0Suuchi Ramesh<\/a>, founder and CEO of Suuchi, Inc.<\/a>; and Eleanor Turner<\/a>, co-founder and chief creative officer of Argent<\/a>. The moderator was\u00a0Meg Fry<\/a>, business reporter at\u00a0ROI-NJ<\/a>. The event was a partnership with Montclair State’s Fashion Studies and Department of Art and Design.<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>WEW Conference<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Nearly 500 people (mostly women) came to the fifth annual WEW Conference, a day of inspiration and motivation for female founders, aspiring entrepreneurs, corporate women, millennials, students and anyone who wants to take a risk and launch a new venture. Known for its top-notch networking, the conference featured 20 female speakers. A new feature, which drew high praise from attendees, was a series of short TED-style talks from female founders including:\u00a0Michelle Bajwa<\/a>, co-founder,\u00a0Domain Computer Services<\/a>;\u00a0Hakika DuBose<\/a>, founder,\u00a0Kika Stretch Studios<\/a>;\u00a0Sarah Hill<\/a>, former co-founder and CEO,\u00a0Bookstr<\/a>;\u00a0Sejal Lakhani<\/a>, CEO,\u00a0TechWerxe<\/a>;\u00a0Ozi Okaro<\/a>, founder,\u00a0Ikuzi Dolls<\/a>;\u00a0Kristine-Ellis Petrik<\/a>, owner and head roaster, Java Love Coffee Roasting Co.<\/a>;\u00a0Nicki Radzely<\/a>, co-founder,\u00a0Doddle & Co.<\/a>; and\u00a0Liz Vilchis<\/a>, CEO,\u00a0latinoTech<\/a>. A panel of funders shared advice for securing cash for a venture, with special tips for women entrepreneurs, and included panelists\u00a0Karen Cahn<\/a>, founder & CEO,\u00a0iFundWomen<\/a>;\u00a0Ita Ekpoudom<\/a>, partner,\u00a0GingerBread Capital<\/a>; and\u00a0Kelly Ford<\/a>, partner,\u00a0Edison Partners<\/a>\u00a0with moderating by\u00a0Kathleen Coviello<\/a>, VP, New Jersey Economic Development Authority<\/a>. Innovation in the corporate world was the focus of a panel featuring\u00a0Emma Aer<\/a>, former CEO,\u00a0Finlandia Cheese<\/a>;\u00a0Carley Graham Garcia<\/a>, Head of External Affairs,\u00a0Google<\/a>;\u00a0Kim Hanemann<\/a>, senior VP of Electric Transmission and Distribution,\u00a0PSE&G<\/a>; and\u00a0Pearl Pugh<\/a>, VP, Global Commercial Leader, for Rheumatology and Dermatology,\u00a0Johnson & Johnson<\/a>\u00a0and the moderator was\u00a0Kelley Holland<\/a>, business journalist and coach.<\/p>\n
