EAES facilities include a wide array of major analytical equipment, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometer and optical emission spectrometer<\/li>\n<li>Gas chromatograph\/mass spectrometer<\/li>\n<li>High-performance liquid chromatograph<\/li>\n<li>UV\/VIS spectrophotometer<\/li>\n<li>CHNS analyzer<\/li>\n<li>Total organic carbon and nitrogen analyzer<\/li>\n<li>Ion Chromatograph<\/li>\n<li>Gamma detector<\/li>\n<li>X-ray powder diffractometer<\/li>\n<li>Malvern Zetasizer for nanoparticle, colloid and protein size measurement.<\/li>\n<li>Malvern Mastersizer laser particle size analyzer for 0.2-2000 micron particles<\/li>\n<li>Reflected and transmitted light microscopes<\/li>\n<li>Spinner Magnetometer, alternating field and thermal demagnetizers<\/li>\n<li>Kappabridge<\/li>\n<li>Vibrating Sample Magnetometer<\/li>\n<li>Greenhouse facility<\/li>\n<li>Interdisciplinary Computational Research Laboratory<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/remote-sensing-lab\/\">Remote Sensing Lab<\/a><\/li>\n<li>24-seat computer laboratory for data processing, statistics, hydrologic and earth systems modeling, and GIS and Remote Sensing activities. Software installed includes ArcGIS, Leica Geosystems&#8217; ERDAS Imagine Professional image processing\/GIS package, ImageJ, GMS, Matlab by Mathworks, Google Earth, and Statistics software packages such as SPSS and JMP.<\/li>\n<li>Geophysical equipment including a ground penetrating radar system and electrical resistivity, magnetic, and seismic profiling systems<\/li>\n<li>Field equipment including a digital flow meter for streams, pressure sensors, automatic water samples, and a GPS total station.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"\/biology\/\">Department of Biology<\/a>\u00a0is housed in Science Hall and the Center for Environmental and Life Sciences. Biology facilities include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>PCRs<\/li>\n<li>Bioassay laboratory, with temperature\/flow controlled aquaria<\/li>\n<li>Capillary electrophoresis instrument<\/li>\n<li>Temperature-controlled Aquaria with associated plumbing<\/li>\n<li>Hemocytometer for cell count<\/li>\n<li>Standard light microscopes; dissecting scopes<\/li>\n<li>DNA sequencer<\/li>\n<li>Infra-red gas analyzer to measure gas exchange of plants<\/li>\n<li>Pressure chamber to measure water status of plants<\/li>\n<li>Scanners to measure leaf and root areas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"\/chemistry-biochemistry\/\">Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry<\/a>\u00a0is housed in Richardson Hall, and the Center for Environmental and Life Sciences. Major research instrumentation includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nuclear magnetic resonance<\/li>\n<li>High performance liquid chromatograph<\/li>\n<li>Fast protein liquid chromatography<\/li>\n<li>Fluorescent plate readers<\/li>\n<li>UV-VIS spectrophotometers<\/li>\n<li>Fluorescence spectrophotometers<\/li>\n<li>Electrophoresis equipment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"\/mmrl\/\" title=\"Home \u00bb Montclair State \u00bb College of Science and Mathematics \u00bb Microscopy &amp; Microanalysis Research Laboratory\">Microscopy and Microanalysis Research Laboratory<\/a>\u00a0is located in the Center for Environmental and Life Sciences. Instrumentation includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hitachi S3400N Scanning Electron Microscope with Bruker LN2-free x-ray microanalysis system<\/li>\n<li>Hitachi 7500H Transmission Electron Microscope<\/li>\n<li>Nikon C2 Plus Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope (CLSM)<\/li>\n<li>Angstrom AA5000 Multi-Function Scanning Probe Microscope<\/li>\n<li>Leica EM UC7 ultramicrotome<\/li>\n<li>Denton Desk IV turbo sputter coaters for metal and carbon coating<\/li>\n<li>Ancillary equipment for specimen preparation and embedding<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Additional research facilities overseen by participating faculty are housed in the\u00a0<a href=\"\/mathematics\/\">Department of Mathematics<\/a>\u00a0in Richardson Hall\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"\/school-of-computing\/\">School of Computing<\/a>\u00a0in the Center for Computing and Information Science (CCIS).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0Department of Earth and Environmental Studies (EAES)\u00a0is housed in the Center for Environmental and Life Sciences (CELS), a 107,000 sq. ft. facility that opened in Summer 2015.
