{"id":11657,"date":"2013-08-14T08:58:33","date_gmt":"2013-08-14T12:58:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/news\/article.php?ArticleID=11657"},"modified":"2013-08-14T08:58:33","modified_gmt":"2013-08-14T12:58:33","slug":"11657_montclair-state-earns-spot-on-princeton-review-s-fire-safety-honor-roll","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/facilities\/2013\/08\/14\/11657_montclair-state-earns-spot-on-princeton-review-s-fire-safety-honor-roll\/","title":{"rendered":"Montclair State Earns Spot on Princeton Review\u2019s Fire Safety Honor Roll"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Montclair State University has earned a spot on the Fire Safety Honor Roll in the 2014 editions of The Princeton Review\u2019s books, <em>The Best 378 Colleges<\/em> and <em>The Complete Book of Colleges.<\/em> <\/p>\n<p><!--more--> <\/p>\n<p>The University received a perfect Fire Safety Rating of 99 \u2013 one of only 23 institutions in the nation to do so \u2013 to earn a place on the Fire Safety Honor Roll. <\/p>\n<p>The Princeton Review asked 1,165 schools about the fire safety measures \u2013 such as automatic fire sprinkler systems and smoke detectors in residence hall rooms \u2013 they have in place to support on-campus fire safety. Each school was rated on a scale of 60-99, with only 23 colleges receiving perfect scores. <\/p>\n<p>According to Robert Ferrara, the University\u2019s director of fire safety, the recognition reflects \u201cthe dedication and support I have from the University to upgrade life safety systems, as well as the efforts of my staff to update training programs for students and staff.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Noting that 100 percent of Montclair State\u2019s residence hall rooms are equipped with sprinklers and alarms, Ferrara says: \u201cWe are committed to our community.\u201d This commitment is evident in groundbreaking programs like the new Fire Academy for Greek Life Students, scheduled for August 28, 2013. <\/p>\n<p>Partnering with the Bergen County Law and Public Safety Institute (BCLPSI), the daylong academy shows fraternity and sorority students \u2013 an off-campus population that fire prevention programs often overlook \u2013 how simple measures can prevent fires and save lives.
