The OFE invites you to join the Office of University Communications &amp; Marketing for this new series on promoting your scholarship through the media.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Registration is open for Sessions 1 through 4! <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You do not need to attend all the session(s) in this series.<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><a href=\"https:\/\/montclair-faculty-excellence.libcal.com\/event\/16285393\"><strong>Session 1 &#8211; Sharing Your Expertise with the Public: An Introduction to Working with the Media<\/strong><\/a><\/h1>\n<p><strong>\u00a0Wednesday, February 18 at 12pm.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Faculty members have a great deal of expertise on subjects that matter to the public, and reporters want to help share that knowledge with their readers, listeners, or viewers. The OFE invites you to the first session in our Promoting Your Scholarship series, led by\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Andrew Mees of University Communications &amp; Marketing. You will learn how to prepare to be the neutral, third-party expert that the media want you to be.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Working with the news media is an exciting opportunity to help educate the public while building the visibility of your program and the University. This workshop will provide simple, actionable tips for working with the news media: beginning with an overview, the workshop will also combat common misconceptions about faculty-media interactions, and introduce skills that will help faculty begin to see the path to becoming a faculty expert. Topics include: understanding the media\u2019s needs, delivering your message effectively in a news media interview, and partnering with the Office of University Communications &amp; Marketing.<\/span><\/p>\n<span class=\"prpl-button\"> <a href=\"https:\/\/montclair.hosted.panopto.com\/Panopto\/Pages\/Viewer.aspx?id=642f7536-0b4a-4c98-914d-b3f700e71f3b\">Session 1 Recording<\/a> <\/span>\n<h1><a href=\"https:\/\/montclair-faculty-excellence.libcal.com\/event\/16285441\"><strong>Session 2 &#8211; Sharing Your Expertise through Opinion Pieces: A Guided Workshop<\/strong><\/a><\/h1>\n<p><strong>Wednesday, March 4 at 12pm.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Want your thoughts on the news of the day \u2013 in your own words \u2013 to reach millions of readers? Opinion pieces have an ideal format that is widely accepted, and not particularly difficult to learn. The OFE invites you to the second session in our Promoting Your Scholarship series, led by\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the Media Relations team. The team will provide a template for writing effective opinion pieces for the news media. Join us to learn and practice the process, as well as review examples from Montclair faculty who have seen their work published in the media. You will also learn about writing guidelines and submission schedules for outlets including <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The New York Times<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Wall Street Journal<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em>,<\/em> and <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Washington Post<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There will be some time to begin working with the template, so you are invited to bring an idea for an opinion piece.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<span class=\"prpl-button\"> <a href=\"https:\/\/montclair.hosted.panopto.com\/Panopto\/Pages\/Viewer.aspx?id=5a66781e-d3c0-4b19-b736-b4030136e275\">Session 2 Recording<\/a> <\/span>\n<h1><a href=\"https:\/\/montclair-faculty-excellence.libcal.com\/event\/16285447\"><strong>Session 3 &#8211; Sharing Your Expertise through LinkedIn: A Guided Workshop<\/strong><\/a><\/h1>\n<p><strong>Wednesday, March 18 at 12pm.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wondering how you can get your research and expertise in front of a massive online audience? Social media is not just for influencers and content creators \u2013 it\u2019s where nearly half of all U.S. adults say they get their news. The OFE invites you to the third session in our Promoting Your Scholarship series. In this workshop, the Media Relations team will use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/\">LinkedIn<\/a> as a case study, and offer tips and best practices on how to use posts and articles to promote your work.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There will be some time to begin working on your own post, so you are invited to bring an idea. Consider joining before the session.<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><a href=\"https:\/\/montclair-faculty-excellence.libcal.com\/event\/16285484\"><strong>Session 4 &#8211; Sharing Your Expertise through On-Camera or Live Interviews<\/strong><\/a><\/h1>\n<p><strong>Wednesday, April 15 at 12pm.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On-camera and live interviews may seem daunting at first but are a good way to present yourself as an expert and share your knowledge. The OFE invites you to the fourth session in our Promoting Your Scholarship series. In this session, the Media Relations team will introduce you to a universal skill set for TV, radio, and podcast interviews as well as TikTok and other social media videos. <\/span><\/p>\n<h1><strong>Session 5 &#8211; Sharing Your Expertise by Promoting Your Research<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><strong>May 2026, TBD<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Promoting your research can mean more than publishing a journal article or grant announcement. The OFE invites you to the final session in our Promoting Your Scholarship series. In this session, the Media Relations team will offer you strategies for taking your study and talking about it in ways that connect to the world.
