This program provides students with a greater understanding of families and people across the life course and in units in multiple contexts, while teaching them to critically analyze literature and current research.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Family Science and Human Development offers the following academic choices for students:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Two major concentrations:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/family-science-and-human-development\/academic-programs\/family-science-and-human-development-families-children-and-school-settings\/\">Child and Lifespan Development &#8211; the Teaching Track<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/family-science-and-human-development\/academic-programs\/family-science-and-human-development-family-services\/\">Family and Human Services<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Two minors:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/family-science-and-human-development\/family-science-and-human-development-minor\/\">Family Science and Human Development<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/family-science-and-human-development\/academic-programs\/gerontology-minor\/\">Gerontology<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>One advanced degree:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/family-science-and-human-development\/academic-programs\/phd-in-family-science-and-human-development\/\">PhD in Family Science and Human Development<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Mission<\/h2>\n<p>The Department of Family Science and Human Development (FSHD) seeks to strengthen the health and wellbeing of individuals, families, and communities, over the life course, using a multidisciplinary approach, especially those efforts aimed at reducing social inequities.
