{"id":378,"date":"2019-01-16T19:07:36","date_gmt":"2019-01-16T19:07:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/forward-thinking\/?page_id=378"},"modified":"2019-01-16T19:08:45","modified_gmt":"2019-01-16T19:08:45","slug":"helping-middle-school-students-understand-graphs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/forward-thinking\/fall-2018\/helping-middle-school-students-understand-graphs\/","title":{"rendered":"Helping Middle School Students Understand Graphs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><strong>STEM-field students of all ages are often challenged to construct and interpret graphs that depict information about two or more covarying quantities.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cOne great obstacle to students\u2019 understanding of graphs is that they often haven\u2019t had enough experiences constructing the underlying coordinate systems needed to make sense of graphical representations,\u201d says Mathematical Sciences Professor <strong>Teo Paoletti<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As the recipient of a one-year award from the Spencer Foundation, Paoletti hopes to remove that obstacle.
