A Master of Arts degree opens opportunities to teach in both community colleges and high schools and provides a solid foundation for students interested in continuing their studies toward a Doctor of Philosophy degree. Graduate training in French is also increasingly useful for positions in government and industries concerned with French-speaking areas of the world.<\/p>\n<p>Along with the concentration in French Literature, the Foreign Language department also offers\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.montclair.edu\/programs\/french-studies-concentration-ma\/\">French, with a concentration in French Studies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Please refer to our\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/graduate\/programs-of-study\/\">programs of study<\/a>\u00a0page for a comprehensive list of all of the graduate programs\u00a0offered within the university.<\/p>\n<div class=\"prpl-drawer\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">Admission Requirements<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<p>Admission is open to students who hold a bachelor&#8217;s degree and have completed at least 24 semester hours of undergraduate French or its equivalent. Students applying for admission must satisfy the standard University requirements for admission to graduate study. Individuals holding the bachelor&#8217;s degree and showing an adequate proficiency in French may enroll in graduate courses, even though they do not wish to enter the Master of Arts program. Applicants with non-U.S. degrees, please visit the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/graduate\/how-to-apply\/international-applicants\/\">application page for international students<\/a>\u00a0to review the U.S. degree equivalency information.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"prpl-drawer\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">Application Checklist<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<p>In order to make applying for graduate school as seamless as possible for you, we have<br \/>\ncreated an application checklist. This checklist can be a reference point for you during the<br \/>\napplication process to ensure that you have a comprehensive understanding of the steps<br \/>\nneeded to apply, as well as all corresponding supplemental materials for your specific<br \/>\nprogram of interest.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Application Deadline: Rolling Admission<\/li>\n<li>Submit Online Application: Please create your online account and submit your application by following the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/graduate\/how-to-apply\/\">general application instructions<\/a> and pay (or waive) the non-refundable $60 application fee. Once this step has been completed, the online portal will allow you to upload your supplemental materials.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The following is a list of the supplemental materials that will accompany your application for the French, French Literature Concentration (MA) program:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Transcript: One from each college attended.<\/li>\n<li>Essays\/Personal Statement &#8211;\u00a0Please write an integrated essay providing a response to each of the following questions:\n<ul>\n<li>What are your goals for graduate study and your future career?<\/li>\n<li>In what ways do your academic background and your professional experiences provide evidence of your potential for success in the program you selected and in your eventual career?<\/li>\n<li>Please give specific examples of relevant coursework and\/or experience.<\/li>\n<li>Is there any further information we should consider in assessing your candidacy?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Letters of Recommendation: Two<\/li>\n<li>International Students:\u00a0The TOEFL is required for applicants to any program who earned their degree in a country where English is not the official language. Moreover, International students must have their transcripts evaluated by an approved evaluator.
