Students are prepared to work with diverse populations in elementary and secondary schools, community agencies, student affairs positions in colleges and universities, and substance abuse treatment facilities. The academic preparation follows guidelines established by state licensure and certification boards. The graduate programs in Counseling offers opportunities for alternative scheduling in the form of face-to-face, hybrid or Saturday classes to meet the needs of the working student.<\/p>\n<p>The Advanced Counseling Certificate program is designed to fulfill state-level and national standards for Licensed Professional Counselors. This program meets the highest professional standards according to CACREP, The National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), and the NJ Board of Marriage and Family Therapists.<\/p>\n<p>Please refer to our\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/graduate\/programs-of-study\/\">programs of study<\/a>\u00a0page for a comprehensive list of all of the graduate programs\u00a0offered within the university.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong> *F1\/J1 visa seeking students are not eligible for this program.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"prpl-drawer\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">Admission Requirements<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<p>Candidates must have a master&#8217;s degree in counseling, which equates to a minimum of 48 semester hours.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Applicants with a GPA below 2.9 will not be considered for admission.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"prpl-drawer\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">Application Checklist<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<p>In order to make applying for graduate school as seamless as possible for you, we have<br \/>\ncreated an application checklist. This checklist can be a reference point for you during the<br \/>\napplication process to ensure that you have a comprehensive understanding of the steps<br \/>\nneeded to apply, as well as all corresponding supplemental materials for your specific<br \/>\nprogram of interest.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Application Deadline: Rolling Admission.<\/li>\n<li>Submit Online Application: Please create your online account and submit your application by following the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/graduate\/how-to-apply\/\">general application instructions<\/a> and pay (or waive) the non-refundable $60 application fee. Once this step has been completed, the online portal will allow you to upload your supplemental materials.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The following is a list of the supplemental materials that will accompany your application for the Advanced Counseling (Post-Master&#8217;s Certificate) program:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Transcript: One from each college attended.<\/li>\n<li>Essays\/Personal Statement \u2013 Please write an integrated essay (1-2 pages) on your long term professional goals, addressing the following questions:\n<ul>\n<li>How has your master&#8217;s in Counseling degree influenced your current position as a counseling professional or intern?<\/li>\n<li>What population(s) do you plan to work with in your professional discipline, and what special knowledge will this certificate afford you?<\/li>\n<li>If this certificate will enable you to change your professional direction in terms of setting\/population, please explain why you desire this change?
