Learn more about our new\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/graduate\/programs-of-study\/applied-mathematics-ms\/\">Applied Mathematics (MS)<\/a> and newly revised <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/graduate\/programs-of-study\/mathematics-ms\/\">Mathematics (MS)<\/a> programs.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>This is an accelerated five-year program. The MS degrees in mathematics provide students with the advanced material needed for positions of leadership in business, industry and government as well as for teaching at the high school and community college level. Our curriculum in mathematics extensively integrates modern methods of computing. The special interests of the faculty include algebra, analysis, applied statistics, chaos theory, combinatorics, data mining, detection of gravitational waves, dynamical systems, fluid dynamics, game theory, graph theory, mathematical modeling, mathematics education, methods and techniques of teaching mathematics, modeling in the biological, chemical and physical sciences, obesity modeling, operations research, problem solving, representation theory, statistical computing and graphics, and the use of technology in education.<\/p>\n<p>Along with the Mathematics, Pure and Applied Mathematics Concentration (BS\/MS) degree, the mathematics department also offers the following options for graduate study:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/graduate\/programs-of-study\/mathematics-ms-mathematics-education-concentration\/\">Mathematics with a concentration in Mathematics Education<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/graduate\/programs-of-study\/mathematics-ms-pure-applied-mathematics-concentration\/\">Mathematics with a concentration in Pure and Applied Mathematics<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/graduate\/programs-of-study\/mathematics-combined-bachelors-master-of-arts-in-teaching\/\">Mathematics (Combined BS\/MAT)<\/a>, and a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/graduate\/programs-of-study\/mathematics-education-phd\/\">PhD in Mathematics Education<\/a>. This checklist can be a reference point for you during the<br \/>\napplication process to ensure that you have a comprehensive understanding of the steps<br \/>\nneeded to apply, as well as all corresponding supplemental materials for your specific<br \/>\nprogram of interest.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Application Deadline: Rolling Admission.<\/li>\n<li>Submit Online Application: Please create your online account and submit your application by following the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/graduate\/how-to-apply\/\">general application instructions<\/a> and pay (or waive) the non-refundable $60 application fee. Once this step has been completed, the online portal will allow you to upload your supplemental materials.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The following is a list of the supplemental materials that will accompany your application for the Mathematics, Pure and Applied Mathematics Concentration (BS\/MS) program:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Transcript: One from each college attended.<\/li>\n<li>Essays\/Personal Statement &#8211; Please write an integrated essay providing a response to each of the following questions:\n<ul>\n<li>What are your goals for graduate study and your future career?<\/li>\n<li>In what ways do your academic background and your professional experiences provide evidence of your potential for success in the program you selected and in your eventual career?<\/li>\n<li>Please give specific examples of relevant coursework and\/or experience.<\/li>\n<li>Is there any further information we should consider in assessing your candidacy?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Letters of Recommendation: Two.<\/li>\n<li>Students holding degrees from non-US institutions must request a course-by-course transcript evaluation from a member of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.naces.org\/\">National Association of Credential Evaluation Services<\/a>\u00a0or by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/educatedchoices.com\/\">Educated Choices<\/a>. TOEFL or IELTS is required for applicants to any program who earned their degree in a country where English is not the official language.
