{"id":9650,"date":"2026-02-19T15:01:55","date_gmt":"2026-02-19T20:01:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/human-resources\/?p=9650"},"modified":"2026-02-19T15:38:44","modified_gmt":"2026-02-19T20:38:44","slug":"secure-2-0-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/human-resources\/2026\/02\/19\/secure-2-0-act\/","title":{"rendered":"SECURE 2.0 Act"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Effective January 1, 2026, the SECURE 2.0 Act introduces a mandatory Roth treatment for age-based catch-up contributions for certain high-income participants in the New Jersey Employees Deferred Compensation Plan (NJSEDCP).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Who is Affected:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This requirement applies to employees:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">50 years of age or older,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Had FICA wages of $150,000 or more in 2025, and\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Contribute more than the standard annual IRS limit in 2026<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you meet the above criteria then any contributions you make above the standard limit must be made as <strong>Roth (after-tax) contributions.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>2026 Contribution Limits:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Standard 2026 annual limit: $24,500<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Age 50+ catch-up: Additional $8,000<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Age 60-63 catch-up: Additional $11,250<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Important Information:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you qualify under this rule, once you hit the standard IRS maximum your 457(b) deductions will<\/span><strong> stop.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>If you would like to make the Roth catch-up contributions<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> you will need to log into Workday to enroll in the 457(b) Roth.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you have any questions regarding your 457(b) contributions, please contact our Empower (formerly Prudential) representative Fernando Garcia at fernando.garcia@empower.com.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you need assistance with making any adjustments to your contributions in Workday please reach out to the HR Support Team for assistance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Email: askHR@montclair.edu<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Phone: 973-655-7700<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Effective January 1, 2026, the SECURE 2.0 Act introduces a mandatory Roth treatment for age-based catch-up contributions for certain high-income participants in the New Jersey Employees Deferred Compensation Plan (NJSEDCP).
