Manipulative disinformation campaigns relying on social media have not only affected the very foundations of our political systems in recent years, but have also distorted our understanding of social issues, such as human trafficking. This round-table seeks to scrutinize the connections between the politics of information dissemination, large global patterns of anti-feminist oppression in the context of transnational labor and organized crime, and systemic genderized and race-based injustice in different criminal justice systems to cope with these challenges. Panelists including scholars from a variety of fields and disciplines share their views and reflect on how to best envision and implement strategies to address these repressive, power-driven institutional and cultural obstacles at home and abroad.<\/p>\n

Justice in Motion participated in a panel discussion and short film screening hosted by the SFDS Social Justice Ministry in observance of Human Trafficking Awareness Month.<\/p>\n

The virtual event featured a screening of the short film Missguidance<\/em><\/strong><\/a> followed by a panel discussion with representatives from Justice in Motion, Women’s Refugee Commission, and Zonta International.<\/p>\n

Justice in Motion discussed the trafficking of temporary foreign workers and how to prevent these abuses. Registration is required<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Junior League of Montclair-Newark will present a panel discussion with one of the leading anti-human trafficking agencies\u2019 in New Jersey-\u00a0Covenant House New Jersey<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Identifying trafficking victims is a challenging process due to many factors, including the extreme trauma victims face. But identifying and providing services to victims as soon as possible is critical to begin the healing process for the inhuman terror the victims have endured. Covenant House New Jersey\u00a0has not only recognized this modern- day tragedy, but also the urgent need to respond, support and protect these young people. In a truly dynamic show of love and compassion\u00a0Covenant House New Jersey\u00a0worked tirelessly to create both evidence-based approaches and groundbreaking research around victim identification and survivor support that is now recognized as a best practice in anti-human trafficking work in NJ and beyond.<\/p>\n
