In highlighting the blending of traditional and innovative elements in the work of this celebrated Italian architect, the tour functions as a physical and metaphysical walk through the past and the future at once. To borrow from Piano himself in a fortunate phrase imbued with an Italo Calvino\u2013esque spirit: \u201cWhen they ask me how the city of the future will look like, I reply: \u2018Like that of the past.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This three-hour tour, led by AIA architect and tour leader Kyle Johnson, will include stops at three of the four sites designed by Piano in Manhattan:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.themorgan.org\/about\/historyMore.asp?id=27\">Morgan Library Expansion<\/a>\u00a0(Midtown East),\u00a0New York Times Building\u00a0(Midtown West) (TBC),\u00a0new Whitney Museum\u00a0(West Village) \u2013 the new\u00a0Manhattanville campus in West Harlem is still at the early stages and will not be included.<\/p>\n<p>Aperitif will follow.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Designed, organized and sponsored by the Inserra Chair in Italian and Italian American Studies at Montclair State University, NJ<\/li>\n<li>Co-sponsored by the NYIT (New York Institute of Technology), School of Architecture and Design, NY and the Italian Culture Institute of New York<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a name=\"About_Johnson\"><\/a>About Kyle Johnson<\/p>\n<p>A graduate of Rice and Columbia Universities, Kyle Johnson worked as Senior Associate at Pei Cobb Freed &amp; Partners \/ I. M. Pei &amp; Partners between1977 and 2009. He is currently an architecture tour leader and independent curator, serving as co-chair of the Architecture Tour Committee at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/main.aiany.org\/\">American Institute of Architects<\/a>, New York Chapter.
