Sept. 29th <\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Inserra Chair in Italian and Italian American Studies is pleased to invite you to &#8220;Italian Writings Abroad,&#8221; the presentation of two groundbreaking anthologies of Italian writings (in translation) which document the contributions of Italians to the literature of the U.S. as well as that of many countries around the world: <em>Italoamericana: The Literature of the Great Migration 1880-1943<\/em>, and <em>Poets of the Italian Diaspora, A Bilingual Anthology<\/em>, both published by Fordham University Press.<\/p>\n<p><em>Italoamericana<\/em> is a landmark collection of translated writings that in establishing a rich, diverse, and mature sense of Italian-American life allows readers to see American society through the eyes of Italian-speaking immigrants who considered their communities as colonies of the mother country. This publication will be presented by Robert Viscusi (General Editor of the American Edition), Anthony J. Tamburri (Translations Editor), and James J. Periconi (Bibliographic Editor), with readings by Giulia Prestia (Translator).<\/p>\n<p><em>Poets of the Italian Diaspora<\/em> is the first-ever anthology devoted to the literature of the Italian diaspora that places it in a global context, and presents a truly international selection of works by more than seventy Italian-language poets who are writing in countries from Australia to Venezuela.
