{"id":14109,"date":"2015-02-22T21:57:32","date_gmt":"2015-02-23T02:57:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/news\/article.php?ArticleID=14109"},"modified":"2018-05-25T12:28:51","modified_gmt":"2018-05-25T16:28:51","slug":"14109_inserra-chair-teresa-fiore-in-tv-documentary-italian-americans-of-ny-and-nj","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/inserra-chair\/2015\/02\/22\/14109_inserra-chair-teresa-fiore-in-tv-documentary-italian-americans-of-ny-and-nj\/","title":{"rendered":"Inserra Chair Teresa Fiore in TV documentary: Italian Americans of NY and NJ"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/profilepages\/view_profile.php?username=fiorete\"><br \/>\nDr. Teresa Fiore<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/chss\/inserra-chair\/\">Inserra Chair in Italian and Italian American Studies<\/a>) was featured\u00a0in the TV documentary\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thirteen.org\/italian-americans-ny-nj\/\"><em>Italian Americans of N<\/em><em>ew York<\/em><em>\u00a0and N<\/em><em>ew<\/em><em>\u00a0Jersey<\/em><\/a>\u00a0hosted by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.broadwayworld.com\/bwwtv\/article\/Maria-Bartiromo-to-Host-2-Part-Series-ITALIAN-AMERICANS-OF-NEW-YORK-AND-NEW-JERSEY-on-Thirteen-Today-20150216\">Maria Bartiromo<\/a> and aired in February 2015 as a companion to the national PBS broadcast\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/the-italian-americans\/home\/\">The Italian Americans<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0The documentary includes interviews with NYC Mayor Bill De Blasio, former New York State Governor Mario Cuomo, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, singer Tony Bennett,\u00a0chef Lidia Bastianich, journalist Steve Adubato, actor\/sculptor Vincenzo Amato, and Montclair native, opera singer Michael Fabiano.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Fiore&#8217;s contribution in the first part of the documentary focuses on the history of Italian New Jersey: the attractive quality of its rural and industrial economies for immigrant job seekers (<span class=\"aBn\"><span class=\"aQJ\">15&#8217;21&#8221;<\/span><\/span>); the role of immigrant workers in Paterson, the silk capital\u00a0(<span class=\"aBn\"><span class=\"aQJ\">16&#8217;28&#8221;<\/span><\/span>); and the status of New Jersey as a state that is even more Italian than the State of New York in terms of the number of residents of Italian origin (35&#8217;51&#8221;). In the second part, she addresses current immigration from Italy &#8211; including the so-called brain drain &#8211; and the economic reasons behind it. In this segment, her position as Associate Professor and Inserra Chair in Italian and Italian American Studies at Montclair State University is featured (44&#8217;44&#8221;).
