The Inserra Chair is pleased to share the new calendar of programs scheduled for the fall 2017 semester.<\/p>\n

The calendar includes events on theatre, cinema and migration. It will open on September 26 with Venice as a Metaphor of the World: Otherness, Immigration, and Religion in Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice <\/em>and in Today’s World<\/a>, a panel with theater director Karin Coonrod and Alessandro Cassin of the Centro Primo Levi, NY, presented in connection with the production of the play at the Kasser Theater.<\/p>\n On October 16, linguist Giuseppe Antonelli and titling expert Jerome Rudes will address the question "What Italian Language(s) Does Italian Film Speak?<\/a>" to understand how Italian circulates on international screens through the voices of Italian actors and thanks to the practice of subtitling. This is the third appointment with the "Critical Made in Italy<\/a>" series.<\/p>\n Multiple award winning playwright, theater and film director Emma Dante will be visiting the U.S. for the first time: on November 15, she will talk about her rich and versatile career<\/a> in conversation with Teresa Fiore, Inserra Chair, in advance of the presentation of Dante’s play Le Sorelle Macaluso<\/em> at the Kasser Theater.<\/p>\n Finally, the last event of the semester (December 11) will be devoted to the topic of historic and contemporary migration, through the presentation of Teresa Fiore\u2019s new book<\/a> Pre-Occupied Spaces: Remapping Italy’s Transnational Migrations and Colonial Legacies<\/em>.<\/p>\n
