Global Ambassador Program

Thank you for your interest in serving as a Global Ambassador during the Fall 2019-Spring 2020 academic year.  Below you can find more information regarding the goals of the Global Ambassador program, expectations, eligibility requirements, and benefits of participation.

Program Goals
  • Demonstrate an interest in cultural exchange through language, food, music, customs, art, etc.
  • Contribute to an inclusive and positive environment with an openness to global perspectives
  • Provide peer support to international students by assisting with their transition to a new environment and helping to reduce culture shock
  • Actively engage in International Engagement programs across four pillars: educational, social, cultural, and community engagement
Expectations
  • Communicate with international students (via postcards, email, WhatsApp, etc.) prior to their arrival to the United States
  • *Attend two training sessions for all Global Ambassadors (August 23, 2019 and January 10, 2020)
  • *Volunteer at Fall International Orientation (August 26-30, 2019) and Spring International Orientation during assigned time slots (January 13-17, 2020)
  • Attend at least two International Engagement events each semester, including trips, Global Living Community programs, and/or international student events, all of which will be communicated via email
  • Meet with assigned mentee(s) once during each semester. This can include going to an on-campus event, eating lunch together in the dining hall, going on a shopping trip, etc.
  • Assist at the Leaders of the World Conference at Montclair State University (Date TBD—sometime in October 2019)
  • *Assist at the World’s Fair event at Montclair State University (Date TBD—sometime in April 2020)
  • Give tours to prospective and new international students as needed

*Students graduating in January 2020 that are accepted into the Global Ambassador program will only be required to attend events during the fall semester because of their early graduation

Eligibility Requirements
  • At least 30 credits completed as of January 2019
  • Enrolled full-time (at least 12 credits for undergraduate students and 9 credits for graduate students)
  • At least one semester completed at Montclair State University
  • Expected graduation date of either January 2020, May 2020, or later
  • Online application and interview with Office of International Engagement
  • Maintain a positive conduct standing at the University
  • Have at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA from Montclair State University
  • Serve as a role model to students; act ethically and morally

Application Timeline
  • Online Application Available – March 6-April 8
  • Interviews – April 15-18
  • Notification of Acceptance or Waitlist Status – April 25
  • Deadline to Return Signed Contract – May 6

  • I certify that I meet all of the eligibility requirements outlined in this contract
  • I understand that failure to attend training or my shifts during International Orientation may result in removal from this program
