Global Ambassador Program

Thank you for your interest in serving as a Global Ambassador during the Fall 2020-Spring 2021 academic year.  Below you can find more information regarding the goals of the Global Ambassador program, expectations, eligibility requirements, and benefits of participation.

Program Goals
  • Demonstrate an interest in cultural exchange through language, food, music, customs, art, etc.
  • Contribute to an inclusive and positive environment with an openness to global perspectives
  • Provide peer support to international students by assisting with their transition to a new environment and helping to reduce culture shock
  • Actively engage in International Engagement programs across four pillars: educational, social, cultural, and community engagement
Expectations
  • Communicate with international students prior to their arrival to the United States
  • Attend a mandatory training session for all Global Ambassadors (August 21, 2020)
  • Volunteer at Fall International Orientation (August 24-28, 2020) and Spring International Orientation during assigned time slots (January 11-15, 2021)
  • Attend at least two International Engagement events each semester, including trips, Global Living Community programs, and/or international student events, all of which will be communicated via email
  • Assist with tabling to promote the Global Ambassador program when applications open
  • Assist at the World’s Fair event at Montclair State University (Date TBD—sometime in April 2021)
  • Give tours to prospective and new international students as needed
Eligibility Requirements
  • At least 30 credits completed as of January 2020
  • Enrolled full-time (at least 12 credits for undergraduate students and 9 credits for graduate students)
  • At least one semester completed at Montclair State University
  • Expected graduation date of either January 2021 or later
  • Online application and interview with Office of International Engagement
  • Maintain a positive conduct standing at the University
  • Have at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA from Montclair State University
  • Serve as a role model to students; act ethically and morally
Benefits of Participation

**Please note that this is a volunteer position that will not be compensated financially, however, there are many benefits, including:

  • Global Ambassador polo, t-shirt, and name badge to wear at volunteer events
  • Red Hawk Dollars uploaded onto student ID card
  • Early move-in to on-campus housing assignment  **Failure to attend training or shifts during International Student Orientation will result in a nightly charge to your student account for early move-in
  • Global Ambassador social events and Recognition Ceremony
  • Opportunity to develop global perspectives and cultural literacy while serving as a leader to international students and participating in cultural exchange
Application Timeline
  • Online Application Available – March 4-April 8, 2020
  • Interviews (will be conducted online) – April 13-17, 2020
  • Notification of Application Status – April 23, 2020
  • Deadline to Return Signed Contract – May 4, 2020

  • I understand the goals of the Global Ambassador Program, expectations of me as a Global Ambassador, and benefits of participation
  • I certify that I meet all of the eligibility requirements outlined in this contract
  • I understand that failure to attend training or my shifts during International Orientation may result in removal from this program
