The\u00a0Assessment Practices Series<\/strong><\/em> offers workshops, presentations, and discussions on shared best practices within the university community. These monthly events share a variety of approaches to assess student learning. How do we know if students are achieving our courses\u2019 learning goals? What assessment practices and technologies are most effective to support student learning?<\/p>\n

April Event: Polling for Feedback and Active Learning<\/a><\/h3>\n

April 22, 2022 from 10:00am – 12:00pm<\/strong><\/p>\n

In our final Assessment Practices Series event of the semester, Polling for Feedback and Active Learning, we took an interactive look at some of the popular (and free!) polling tools available for instructors, such as Kahoot and PollEverywhere. We also learned how these tools can be leveraged as formative assessments to gather important data on student knowledge, and help both instructors and students better understand where any gaps or misconceptions lie and correct them BEFORE the big exam.<\/p>\n

March Event: Social Reading and Collaborative Annotation<\/a><\/h3>\n

March 29, 2022 from 10:00am – 12:00pm<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our fourth event in our Assessment Practices Series showcased the ways social reading and collaborative annotation can be used as a valuable way to assess student work. Tools such as Hypothesis and Perusall were shown.<\/p>\n

February Event: Promoting Academic Integrity<\/a><\/h3>\n

February 22, 2022 from 9:00am – 12:15pm\u00a0<\/strong>[Online]<\/p>\n

Our third event in our monthly Assessment Practices Series sought to demystify academic integrity procedures while you learned about technologies and authentic assessment techniques to help mitigate academic dishonesty.<\/p>\n

This event included three sessions. All sessions took place in the same Zoom meeting room. Questions were welcome at the end of each session.<\/p>\n

December Event: Differentiated Assessments in Canvas<\/a><\/h3>\n

December 7th, 2021 from 10:00am – 12:00pm<\/strong> [Online]<\/p>\n

Our second event in our monthly Assessment Practices Series focused on some simple techniques for supporting student assessments in Canvas. Special guests from the Disability Resource Center (DRC) shared insight on some student needs and ways to adjust assessment practices to accommodate all students. ITDS demonstrated how to leverage Canvas tools to set up differentiated assessments, how to provide extended time on quizzes, how to provide extensions, and other adjustments.<\/p>\n

November Event: Demystifying the Canvas Gradebook<\/strong><\/a><\/h3>\n

November 3, 2021 from 10:00am – 12:00pm<\/strong> [Online]<\/p>\n

The first event in our monthly Assessment Practices Series shared best practices to effectively structure your assignments and gradebook in Canvas. We presented the gradebook from a student\u2019s point of view, while sharing how your choices impact the student experience. Learn how to automatically weight assignments using assignment groups, hide\/unhide grades from students, set grading policies and much more.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
