Accessing Montclair Syllabus<\/div>

  1. Click on \u201cMontclair Syllabus\u201d from your Canvas course navigation.<\/li>\n
  2. Click Edit<\/strong>\u00a0to open edit mode.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Note: “Montclair Syllabus” is not functional in sandbox, template, or community course shells. Additionally, the Canvas “Student View” option is not fully compatible with “Montclair Syllabus” and is not recommended to preview your syllabi.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>

    Navigating in the Montclair Syllabus<\/div>
    \n

    The \u201cMontclair Syllabus\u201d is broken up into components. The baseline syllabus template contains many helpful components which are distributed university-wide. Some departments or courses come with additional components by default. Many templated components can be modified; however, certain components, such as \u00a0\u201cUniversity Policies\u201d are locked and cannot be modified by the instructor.<\/p>\n

    Modify Options<\/h3>\n

    The top left will contain three options:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Add<\/strong> – add an additional component<\/li>\n
    2. Reorder <\/strong>– change the order of components<\/li>\n
    3. Preview<\/strong> – preview the syllabus<\/li>\n
    4. Help<\/strong> – Simple Syllabus help and knowledge base<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>

      Each component has \u201cHelp text\u201d on the right-hand side. If \u201cHelp text\u2019 is hidden, click on the arrow to show the text.

      Privacy and Visibility Options<\/h3>\n<\/p>

      Syllabus components also contain visibility options:<\/p>\n

      <\/figure>\n

      Visible<\/strong> – \u201cVisible\u201d means that the component will appear on the finalized version of the syllabus if it contains content. This is set as the default. If you do not wish to show a component in the finalized version click to change to \u201cInvisible\u201d.<\/p>\n

      Note: Leaving a component blank will also render it invisible on the syllabus.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

      Public<\/strong> – \u201cPublic\u201d means that Montclair\u2019s faculty and staff can see this information displayed in the Simple Syllabus Library when the syllabus is published. \u201cPrivate\u201d means that only the instructor and students in that course can see the information when the syllabus is published. The default is set to \u201cPrivate\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n

      Edit the Montclair Syllabus<\/div>

      If the syllabus component has a text box you can type your information directly into the text box or copy and paste from another application.<\/p>\n

      Adding Additional Components<\/div>

      You can add additional components by clicking on the + Add new component<\/strong> at the bottom of the syllabus or + Add<\/strong> at the top of the syllabus.<\/p>\n

      Additional components can be named, reordered, and imported at your discretion.<\/p>\n
