This award celebrates faculty who excel in applying pedagogical strategies and instructional design principles to support student success. Recipients are recognized for implementing innovative digital pedagogy to promote student engagement and enrich student learning while exemplifying quality course design, high standards of online and hybrid pedagogy, technology integration, and accessibility, as outlined in best-practice frameworks.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This recognition, the ITDS Excellence in Course Design Award, promotes ongoing innovation in online and hybrid course design, meeting the needs of a diverse student population, while promoting student success across learning environments.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Eligibility<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Open to all current faculty who have taught an individual online or hybrid course in the last two years at Montclair State University.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Online program courses designed in collaboration with ITDS are ineligible for this award.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Award Criteria<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Montclair State University <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/itds\/instructional-design\/course-review-and-qa\/#checklist\">Online\/Hybrid Course Review Checklist<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> will be utilized to evaluate the quality of an online or hybrid course from both pedagogical and technological perspectives. This checklist is based on the Quality Matters Program standards, Montclair State University\u2019s OCIA course design model (Orientation, Content, Interaction, Assessment), and established best practices in online teaching and learning. The review focuses on the following categories:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Course Overview<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Instructional Materials<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Learning Activities and Interaction<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Learning Assessments<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Technology and Accessibility<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To learn more about the criteria of each category, please refer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/itds\/instructional-design\/course-review-and-qa\">Course Review and Quality Assurance webpage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Application Process<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">T<\/span>o apply for the ITDS Excellence in Course Design award, please complete the <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/montclair.co1.qualtrics.com\/jfe\/form\/SV_0PQQrMuKq8butMy\" target=\"_blank\">online application form<\/a> (by April 14th). <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On the form, you will be asked to name the course you would like to submit for award consideration along with a description of how your course aligns with the award criteria and the <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/itds\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/248\/2025\/02\/ITDS-Online_Hybrid-Course-Review-Checklist-2-2025.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Montclair Online\/Hybrid Course Review Checklist<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We invite students to nominate courses for the ITDS Excellence in Course Design Award to recognize an outstanding learning experience. Students who have taken an online or hybrid course that was well-designed, interactive, inclusive, and enhanced their learning experience, are encouraged to submit this <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/montclair.co1.qualtrics.com\/jfe\/form\/SV_6P5MyCdXxhr2Lem\" target=\"_blank\">nomination form<\/a> by April 1st.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ITDS will offer information sessions to share additional details and answer questions. <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/itdsevents.montclair.edu\/calendar\/itds-workshops?cid=15202&amp;t=g&amp;d=0000-00-00&amp;cal=15202&amp;ct=80018&amp;inc=0\" target=\"_blank\">Register for an upcoming session<\/a> to learn more (coming soon).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Tentative Timeline<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The 2025 ITDS Excellence in Course Design Award review tentative timeline is as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Late February:<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Call for applications open<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>April 1st:<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Student nomination deadline<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>April 14th:<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Application submission deadline<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>April 21st:<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Committee begins the review process<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>May 15th:<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Award Recipients notified via email\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>June 3rd:<\/strong> Award Recipients present their courses and receive their awards at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/itds\/faculty-development-support\/annual-conferences\/annual-summer-institute\/\">ITDS Summer Institute event.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Review Committee<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The ITDS Excellence in Course Design Review Committee will consist of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ITDS members, faculty, and students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Members of the Course Design Review Committee are ineligible for this award.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Additional Information<\/h2>\n<p>If you have any questions regarding the process for submitting an application or the review process for the ITDS Excellence in Course Design Award, please contact <a href=\"mailto:itds@montclair.edu\">itds@montclair.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Overview The 2025 ITDS Excellence in Course Design Award recognizes faculty who demonstrate exceptional innovation and effectiveness in online and hybrid course design.
