The John J. Cali School of Music<\/strong> is a comprehensive, professional school\u00a0of music centered on preparing the creative leaders of tomorrow. We are\u00a0dedicated to a premier artistic and academic education offering\u00a0exceptional training in best-in-class facilities.<\/p>\n

Choosing from majors in performance, jazz studies, composition, music\u00a0education, and music therapy, our students study with world-class musicians\u00a0dedicated to exceptional artistic and personal growth, mixing rigorous\u00a0coursework with focused private lessons and challenging repertory.\u00a0Our students perform in prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall,\u00a0often sharing the stage with professional ensembles like the New Jersey\u00a0Symphony Orchestra. What\u2019s more, international tours have taken them\u00a0from Austria to Australia. Tuition is also very affordable and Montclair State\u00a0enjoys a ranking as one of Forbes\u2019 25 Best Buy Colleges in the Northeast.<\/p>\n

The Cali School of Music makes its home in Chapin Hall, a 1928 Spanish\u00a0Mission Style building at the main entrance to the campus. The School of\u00a0Music is named in honor of the John J. Cali family whose generous $5\u00a0million gift provides scholarships and faculty support.\u00a0It was renovated and expanded in 2009 to include large rehearsal spaces\u00a0and the 225-seat Jed Leshowitz Recital Hall \u00a0accommodating nearly 600\u00a0students in its classrooms, large rehearsal spaces, 4 floors of practice\u00a0rooms, and a music tech computer lab.<\/p>\n

Though Montclair State University serves more than 20,000 undergraduate\u00a0and graduate students, The Cali School of Music treats our students to a small\u00a0school experience within a larger school environment, offering\u00a0a supportive community that serves the musical and academic goals of\u00a0young musicians.<\/p>\n

The Cali School is just 12 miles from New York City, an abundant resource\u00a0of working professional and internationally renowned professors. It\u2019s just a\u00a0quick train ride for faculty and students to the cultural capital of the world.\u00a0Close by, the town of Montclair bustles with restaurants, galleries, movie\u00a0theaters, performing arts companies, and the nationally recognized\u00a0Montclair Art Museum.<\/p>\n
