Cali School of Music at Montclair State University is introducing a \u201cquartet\u201d of new student-centered performances this fall \u2013 The Cali Signature Series, debuting October 2019. The four-part series is a selection of symphonic, chamber and vocal music concerts, showcasing the exquisite venues and talents of Montclair State.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe caliber of students and performances coming out of the Cali School is one of the best-kept secrets in the New York City region,\u201d says College of the Arts Dean Daniel Gurskis. \u201cWe want local residents to discover this hidden gem and enjoy the genius that\u2019s blooming right in their backyards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe host more than 300 performances at Montclair State over the course of the year,\u201d says Cali School Interim Director Thomas McCauley. \u201cThe Signature Series is a way to highlight four of the many high-quality performances and bring awareness to the public.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Besides showcasing students\u2019 accomplishments, McCauley notes that the Signature Series concerts are \u201cquite eclectic, quite different. We hope to give people who come an overall taste of what is happening here \u2013 and there are really good things happening here at the Cali School.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Signature Series gets off to a roaring start, with\u00a0<strong><em>Kaleidoscope<\/em>\u00a0on October 12, at 8 p.m. in the Kasser Theater<\/strong>. \u201cThis is something quite special. It\u2019s more than 20 performances back to back within a 75-minute concert. Performers are placed at various locations all over the theater. We feature and highlight every area \u2013 woodwinds, strings, brass, opera, jazz. It\u2019s a great overview of what we do here.\u201d<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/peakperfs.tix.com\/Schedule.aspx?OrgNum=1631&amp;framed=true\">Purchase $15 tickets at peakperfs.org<\/a><\/p>\n<p>For the second Signature Series concert on\u00a0<strong>October 26, at 8 p.m. in the Kasser Theater, the Montclair State University Orchestra,<\/strong>\u00a0under the direction of Maestro Nicholas DeMaison, will be performing with the\u00a0<strong>New Jersey Youth Symphony<\/strong>, under the direction of Helen Cha Pyo. The two ensembles will perform masterworks by Beethoven, Liszt, Schubert, Strauss and Wagner, both on their own and side by side.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/peakperfs.tix.com\/Schedule.aspx?OrgNum=1631&amp;framed=true\">Purchase $15 tickets at peakperfs.org<\/a><\/p>\n<p>On\u00a0<strong>November 26, at 7 p.m. in the Leshowitz Recital Hall<\/strong>, the world-renowned\u00a0<strong>Shanghai Quartet<\/strong>\u00a0will appear in the third Cali Signature Series concert. The Shanghai Quartet has been in residence at the John J. Cali School of Music since 2004, and has performed concerts and master classes throughout the world. Appearing with the Shanghai Quartet that evening will be the\u00a0<strong>Zora Quartet<\/strong>, the newly installed resident graduate string quartet in the Cali School.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/o\/john-j-cali-school-of-music-26212605751\">Reserve free tickets at calichamber.eventbrite.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Beatrice Crawford Memorial Concert\u00a0<em>Considering Matthew Shepard,\u00a0<\/em>December 8, at 3 p.m. in the Kasser Theater<\/strong>, features the\u00a0<strong>Montclair State University Chorale<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0<strong>Montclair State University Singers<\/strong>\u00a0under the direction of Professor Heather Buchanan, accompanied by pianist Steven W. Ryan, presenting the profound and gripping work,\u00a0<em>Considering Matthew Shepard<\/em>, by composer Craig Hella Johnson. \u201c<em>Considering Matthew Shepard<\/em>\u00a0is a new, powerful choral passion-oratorio that invites us all to consider our call to stand for love, forgiveness, understanding and justice in our communities and the world,\u201d says McCauley. The Signature Series semi-staged performance of\u00a0<em>Considering Mathew Shepard<\/em>is its regional debut.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/peakperfs.tix.com\/Schedule.aspx?OrgNum=1631&amp;framed=true\">Reserve free tickets at peakperfs.org<\/a><\/p>\n<p>McCauley points out that each concert is either $15 or free. \u201cIt is our hope that, by highlighting a few of the many great concerts presented in the John J.
