{"id":207402,"date":"2019-11-01T15:40:39","date_gmt":"2019-11-01T19:40:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/john-j-cali-school-of-music\/?p=207402"},"modified":"2019-11-01T15:40:39","modified_gmt":"2019-11-01T19:40:39","slug":"cali-student-receives-award-from-latin-grammy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/john-j-cali-school-of-music\/2019\/11\/01\/cali-student-receives-award-from-latin-grammy\/","title":{"rendered":"Cali Student receives Award from Latin GRAMMY"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Currently pursuing his bachelor\u2019s degree at the Cali School with distinguished piano professor Dr. Lisa Yui, Alejandro Guill\u00e9n has been awarded $10,000 in tuition assistance by the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Forty-three\u00a0talented music students worldwide from diverse backgrounds with a great passion for Latin music were awarded this honor to help fund the cost to attend some of the most prestigious universities in the world and pursue their musical dreams. In addition to the scholarship he and the other awardees were\u00a0invited for an\u00a0all-expense paid trip to Las Vegas in November to represent the\u00a0winners.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif\">Born in the city of Caracas, Venezuela, Alejandro was accepted at the Simon Bolivar Conservatory at the young age of 11. There, he studied with Francisco Ascanio, Laura M\u00e9ndez and Domenico Lombardi. After arriving to the United States, Alejandro began private lessons with Aziza Khasanova.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif\">The 2019 scholarship recipients were carefully selected\u00a0by the Latin GRAMMY Foundation&#8217;s Scholarship Committee, which is tasked with meticulously evaluating a highly competitive pool of aspiring musicians on a variety of skills and rigorous policies developed by the Latin GRAMMY Foundation.<\/span><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif\">Since its establishment five years ago, the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation has donated a remarkable $5 million toward scholarships, musical instrument donations, and educational events in Ibero-America.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif\">We are so honored to help his talent continue to bloom here at the\u00a0John J.
