The Cali School of Music is pleased to announce that it is adding a section of\u00a0MUGN\u00a0120, Rap and Rock as Cultural Phenomena, (MUGN\u00a0120 05 26831, W 5:30\u20138pm)<\/strong>\u00a0that will concentrate on the development of Hip Hop:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

This course will investigate the origins, implications, and intersectionalities of hip-hop music. From local art form to global phenomenon, hip-hop has changed music and society in myriad ways. We will examine the cultural, technological, and aesthetic development of this musical genre over time and space.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

This 3-credit course fulfills the\u00a0Fine and Performing Arts General Education Requirement,\u00a0and serves as an\u00a0elective in the Humanities major\u00a0and the\u00a0African-American Studies minor.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Teo Beauchamp,\u00a0<\/strong>the instructor, is experienced as a musician, producer, and engineer. He is also\u00a0a seasoned writer and reader of poetry. He has recited his poetry at a number of venues including the Nuyorican Poetry Cafe in New York and Tanners, The Billiard Inn, The Poetry Lounge, Midnight Special, Beyond Baroque and The Actors Gang in Los Angeles. He has also performed at the regional poetry slam competition in Big Sur California with the Los Angeles slam team.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
