{"id":439,"date":"2018-07-18T14:16:47","date_gmt":"2018-07-18T18:16:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/kinesiology\/?page_id=439"},"modified":"2024-09-17T14:36:50","modified_gmt":"2024-09-17T18:36:50","slug":"laboratories-equipment-list","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/kinesiology\/laboratories-equipment-list\/","title":{"rendered":"Laboratories Equipment List"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Kinesiology Laboratories are well equipped and able to conduct a variety of teaching demonstrations and scientific research studies, and has the following equipment available.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Major Hardware: Exercise Equipment<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Treadmill (Trackmaster) \u2013 High performance exercise ergometer.<\/li>\n<li>Monark Exercise Bikes ([8] Ergomedic 828 E, [1] Ergomedic 874E) \u2013 Flywheel cycle ergometers with variable resistance.<\/li>\n<li>Electronically Braked Leg Cycle Ergometers (Velotron, Sensormedics Eromedic 800S) \u2013 Electrically control resistance on cycle independent of pedal frequency.<\/li>\n<li>Arm Ergometer (Monark 881) \u2013 Arm cycling testing.<\/li>\n<li>Free Weights \u2013 Various resistance exercise equipment including a squat rack, [2] benches, 20kg barbells [2], dumbbells [2 each; 5-50lbs], kettlebells [1 each; 5-45lbs], Olympic plates and bumper plates [400+lbs].<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Major Hardware: Physiology Measurements<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Metabolic Cart (Parvo Medics, Vmax Encore, COSMED Fitmate Pro, ADI Physiology System) \u2013 Spirometry and indirect calorimetry measures of oxygen consumption including VO<sub>2<\/sub><\/li>\n<li>Stress Testing Cart (GE Case Exercise Stress Testing Cart) \u2013 Resting and exercising electrocardiogram with integrated treadmill and automated exercising blood pressure machine (SunTech Tango).<\/li>\n<li>Air Displacement Plethysmography (COSMED BodPod) \u2013 Body density and body fat assessment.<\/li>\n<li>Hydrostatic Weighing Tank (Hydro-Weight Reader) \u2013 Body density and body fat assessment.<\/li>\n<li>Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (Tanita MC-780U Segmental, Tanita TBF300A Foot-to-Foot) \u2013 Weight, impedance, and body fat assessment.<\/li>\n<li>AD Instruments Data Acquisition Boards ([2] PowerLab 16\/35) \u2013 Used with AD Instruments LabChart Pro software to collect real-time, continuous, and synchronized signals from a variety of analog and digital inputs from various research equipment. Input equipment available in the Exercise Science Lab include:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Wireless Wearable ([2] ADI \u2013 Equivital) \u2013 Two lead electrocardiogram, breathing rate, high-resolution tri-axial acceleration, skin temperature, and blood oxygen saturation.<\/li>\n<li>Single Lead ECG (ADI) \u2013 Electrocardiogram for heart rhythms and heart rate.<\/li>\n<li>Strain-Gauge Pneumograph Respitrace (ADI) \u2013 Respiratory rate.<\/li>\n<li>Handgrip Force Transducer (ADI) \u2013 Continuous handgrip force.<\/li>\n<li>Skin Thermistors ([4] ADI) \u2013 Continuous skin temperature.<\/li>\n<li>Rectal Temperature Probe (ADI) \u2013 Continuous core temperature.<\/li>\n<li>Pulse Sensor (ADI) \u2013 Basic heart rhythms and heart rate.<\/li>\n<li>Non-Invasive Blood Pressure System (ADI) \u2013 Continuous finger blood pressure and cardiac output, stroke volume, and total peripheral resistance model flow estimates.<\/li>\n<li>Tonometer Probe (ADI) \u2013 Pulse wave analysis and pulse wave velocity.<\/li>\n<li>Sphygmomanometer (ADI) \u2013 Continuous digital occlusion cuff pressure.<\/li>\n<li>Metabolic Physiology System (ADI) \u2013 Metabolic testing including oxygen consumption and VO<sub>2<\/sub><\/li>\n<li>External video capture (Pinnacle Dazzle) \u2013 Video capture from external computer screens such as ultrasound machines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Ultrasound (GE Vivid i with cardiac, linear and curvilinear probes) \u2013 Internal body structure visualization and blood flow assessment.<\/li>\n<li>Muscle Oxygen Near Infrared Spectrometer ([3] Moxy) \u2013 Wireless muscle oxygen saturation assessment during rest, exercise, and blood flow occlusion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Major Hardware: Movement Science Measurements<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Isokinetic Dynamometer (Biodex System 3 Pro with upper and lower extremity attachments and upgraded with new HUMAC technology) \u2013 Muscle strength and power testing.<\/li>\n<li>3D Motion Capture System (12 Camera OptiTrack) \u2013 3D human movement motion capture for Biomechanical and motor behavior analysis.<\/li>\n<li>Electromagnetic Motion Tracking System (Ascension) \u2013 3D human movement motion capture without the need for \u2018line of sight\u2019 for the object being tracked.<\/li>\n<li>Force Platforms ([2] Bertec) \u2013 Used in biomechanical analysis to measure forces applied on the ground and to calculate torques and forces at joints during walking, running and jumping.<\/li>\n<li>Virtual Reality System (Oculus Rift) \u2013 An immersive method to provide and manipulate subjects\u2019 field of view during research.<\/li>\n<li>Electromyographic measurement system (16-Channel Delsys Wireless Trigno) \u2013 Measuring the activation of muscles.<\/li>\n<li>Camcorders ([4] Sony HDR cx220) and Tripods (Mannfroto) \u2013 Used to capture video for biomechanical analysis.<\/li>\n<li>Eye Tracking System (SR Eyelink II) &#8211; Binocular assessment of eye movement and gaze fixation with Extech HD450 lightmeter for pupillometry.<\/li>\n<li>Vertical Jump System (Just Jump System, [2] Vertec) \u2013 Vertical Jump and jump air time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Major Software Programs<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Data Integration and Acquisition (LabChart Pro) \u2013 Used with AD Instruments PowerLab hardware to collect a variety of analog and digital inputs from various research equipment.<\/li>\n<li>Exercise Trainer Software (PeriPedal) \u2013 Real-time visualization and recording of muscle oxygen and heart rate data.<\/li>\n<li>Cycle ergometer software suite (Velotron Wingagte, 3D, CS) \u2013 Real-time data acquisition of power and pedal rate for aerobic and anaerobic cycle ergometer exercise tests.<\/li>\n<li>Motion Monitor Software \u2013 A complete software solution for collecting and processing human movement data.
