The first workshop is Intro to\u00a0Scholarly Publishing for Grad Students<\/strong>. This workshop will provide a basic introduction to scholarly publishing with a focus on scholarly journals. Other topics discussed include the types of publishing models, how to access scholarly journals, and finding trustworthy journals. This workshop will be offered on:<\/p>\n Tuesday, October 14th at 7:00 pm<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Thursday, October 16th at 4:00 pm<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Discovering and Evaluating Scholarly Journals for Grad Students<\/strong>\u00a0is the second workshop in the series. Attendees will learn more about journal rankings, impact factors, and using University Library databases to access journal articles. This will be useful for students searching for potential journals to publish in or learning more about the article search process. This workshop will be offered on:<\/p>\n Tuesday, October 28th at 12:00 pm<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Wednesday, November 5th at 7:00 pm<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Friday, November 7th at 10:00 am<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n The final workshop in our scholarly publishing series is\u00a0Predatory Publishing for Grad Students<\/strong>. This workshop will introduce predatory publishing, explain how early-career researchers are targeted, and demonstrate tactics to identify low-quality journals. This workshop will be offered on:<\/p>\n Monday, November 10th at 11:00 am\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Thursday, November 20th at 4:00 pm<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Friday, December 5th at 12:30 pm<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Graduate students should also check out the\u00a0Introduction to Literature Review<\/strong>\u00a0workshops to get a better understanding of the literature review process. Part 1 of this workshop will help orient new researchers to the basic concepts associated with planning and organizing a literature review. Part 2 will explore more advanced concepts, such as synthesis matrices and vocabulary.
