Evans, and her spouse, Ed Evans, were guests of President Biden and Dr. Jill Biden at the White House\u2019s inaugural Juneteenth Concert on the South Lawn.\n<p>\u201cJuneteenth has always been very meaningful to me personally, as it is to our College community. Growing up in Alabama during the Civil Rights era, I never imagined that I would be attending a Juneteenth concert on the White House lawn,\u201d said Evans. \u201cHaving Bloomfield College represented at the White House\u2019s inaugural Juneteenth Concert is indicative of the growing understanding of the contributions Predominantly Black Institutions are making in our country\u2019s economy as we propel the social mobility of our graduates, their families and the many generations that follow.\u201d<\/p><\/div><div class=\"prpl-column one-half\">\n<figure class=\"responsive-image-holder wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"mlt-responsive-image\" data-original-image=\"\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/275\/2024\/01\/BC-Happenings-01_Juneteenth.jpg\" src=\"\/responsive-media\/cache\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/275\/2024\/01\/BC-Happenings-01_Juneteenth.jpg.0.1x.generic.jpg\" alt=\"Bloomfield College Chancellor Marcheta P. Evans and spouse Ed Evans\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div><\/p><\/div>\n<h2>Bloomfield Student Earns Top Research Poster Award<\/h2>\n<div class=\"prpl-row\"><div class=\"prpl-column one-half\">\n<figure class=\"responsive-image-holder wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"mlt-responsive-image\" data-original-image=\"\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/275\/2024\/01\/BC-Happenings-02_Research-Poster.jpg\" src=\"\/responsive-media\/cache\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/275\/2024\/01\/BC-Happenings-02_Research-Poster.jpg.0.1x.generic.jpg\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div><div class=\"prpl-column one-half\">\n<p><a id=\"research\"><\/a>Jorge Santana \u201923, a Bloomfield College sociology major with a concentration in criminal justice, won the Best Undergraduate Poster award at the Eastern Sociological Society\u2019s 93rd Annual Meeting in Baltimore, Maryland. Only five of 70 undergraduate student posters received recognition at the Society\u2019s awards ceremony. The poster, titled \u201cResources, Reintegration, and Rehabilitation Programs for Offenders,\u201d was part of his research for a senior research seminar taught by Assistant Sociology Professor Natascia Boeri.<\/p><\/div><\/p><\/div>\n<h2>Celebrating a Milestone: The 150th Commencement<\/h2>\n<div class=\"prpl-row\"><div class=\"prpl-column one-half\">\n<p><a id=\"commencement\"><\/a>Bloomfield College celebrated a historic 150th Commencement on Saturday, May 20, 2023, on the College Quadrangle. The Class of 2023 comprised students who originated from or held citizenship in more than 12 countries. Close to half became first-generation college graduates. Just over 280 students listened to inspiring remarks from three honorary degree recipients. CBS News Chief Investigative and Senior National Correspondent James D. Axelrod, who also served as a past member of the Bloomfield College Board of Trustees, was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree. Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill and Assemblywoman Mila M. Jasey were awarded Honorary Doctor of Laws degrees.<\/p><\/div><div class=\"prpl-column one-half\">\n<figure class=\"responsive-image-holder wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"mlt-responsive-image\" data-original-image=\"\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/275\/2024\/01\/BC-Happenings-03_-Commencement.jpg\" src=\"\/responsive-media\/cache\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/275\/2024\/01\/BC-Happenings-03_-Commencement.jpg.0.1x.generic.jpg\" alt=\"Montclair President Jonathan Koppell, journalist James D. Evans and U.S. Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<h2>High Praise for Bloomfield<\/h2>\n<p><a id=\"high-praise\"><\/a>Bloomfield College was designated as New Jersey\u2019s only four-year Predominantly Black Institution, Hispanic-Serving Institution and Minority Serving Institution, and has been continually recognized as a leader in social mobility opportunities and outcomes for first generation and low-income students.<\/p>\n<p>For the fifth year in a row, Bloomfield College is nationally ranked as a top undergraduate school for Game Design.
