{"id":207359,"date":"2023-03-31T14:50:35","date_gmt":"2023-03-31T18:50:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/mathematics-education-phd\/?p=207359"},"modified":"2023-10-13T15:31:32","modified_gmt":"2023-10-13T19:31:32","slug":"math-research-group-presents-at-rume-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/mathematics-education-phd\/2023\/03\/31\/math-research-group-presents-at-rume-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Math research group presents at RUME 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mathematics education doctoral student John O\u2019Meara, along with mathematics faculty <a href=\"\/~vaidyaa\">Dr. Ashwin Vaidya<\/a>, recently presented their research at the <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/sigmaa.maa.org\/rume\/Site\/News.html\" target=\"_blank\">2023 Research in Undergraduate Mathematics Education conference<\/a> in Omaha, NE. Also contributing to this research presentation were undergraduate mathematics students Cristina Flores and Vlad Nita.<\/p>\n<p>During the presentation, John shared about the dynamic nature of the evolution of students\u2019 networks, as well as insights about how course performance can be correlated with both features of the students\u2019 networks and the course\u2019s ideal network structure. Their work aims to lay the foundation for meaningful intervention and predictive analytical tools that instructors can make use of in order to identify which students are likely to struggle in their precalculus course, and with what particular topics they need additional support.
